Daegu hair salon khaki tone-down on grown-out two-tone hair: Momentium

In short

Momentium is a one-stylist hair salon near Manchon Station in Suseong, Daegu. After more than a year without dyeing, the writer's medium-length two-tone hair, black on top and brown at the ends, got a full tone-down in a level 5 color with khaki mixed in to avoid red tones, with nutrient treatment mixed in for the damaged ends. The color at Momentium came out evenly darker with no blotches and shows a soft brown in sunlight, a satisfying result for anyone who wants a tone-down without redness.

Why I did a full tone-down dye on a year-old two-tone bob

I finally went to get my hair sorted at Momentium, a hair salon in Manchon-dong, Daegu. Honestly... my hair was a mess. It had been over a year since I last dyed it, and my shoulder-length hair was black on top and brown below... a total two-tone, and it looked really untidy.

With a kid to look after, touching up my roots all the time is hard, so this time I decided to go for a full tone-down dye instead.

What are Momentium's location and atmosphere like?

Momentium is right near Manchon Station, so it's easy to reach by both subway and bus. You don't need a car, which made it perfect for dropping my kid off and popping over for a bit.

It's also a one-stylist salon run by the owner alone, so it's quiet and not crowded, which I loved even more.

How did the consultation go for a tone-down color without red tones?

In the consultation, the owner recommended level 7 or level 5, and I went with the much darker level 5 with khaki mixed in. I'd agonized over the color, and she was really thorough from the consultation onward.

The ends of my hair had been dyed a lot, so they were too light and badly damaged. Because they were so light, the color difference looked even bigger and the whole thing looked messy. I figured if I was doing it anyway, I should go all the way dark, so I picked level 5.

And the most important thing: I said, "Please make it a color without red tones." She said she'd mix in khaki to set the color, so I trusted her right away. I'd covered my hair with a khaki-mixed brown before, and the color was so subtle and pretty. In sunlight it looks even softer, so I figured I'd love it.

It was nice that she brought out a color chart and showed me as she explained. The shades got lighter toward the top, and I think colors like that would need bleaching. I haven't tried bleach yet, but since Momentium is a salon that's good at dyeing, I feel I could trust them with it.

Is there care for damaged hair during dyeing?

At Momentium, they mixed a nutrient into the dye. The ends of my hair were really damaged from layers of perms plus dye. It really boosted my trust in them...

It felt like they were caring for the condition of my hair, not just dyeing it. Maybe because they added so much nutrient, word on the street is my hair feels even better after the dye.

How the full tone-down dye went

For a two-tone tone-down, the dye went on the previously dyed light parts first, and the scalp area last. She applied it step by step, starting with the already-dyed sections.

She carefully worked the dye in step by step, starting with the light brown parts, and then finished by applying it all the way to the scalp!

As time passed, I could see the blackish dye coming up, and I got a strong feeling that this time the tone-down would really work.

While I waited, she brought light snacks and tea. I like cold water, so I took water, but you can ask for coffee or tea too.

At the shampoo, it wasn't just a quick rinse; they added nutrient care too, and my ends got much softer.
