Rainy-day Jeju café in Pyoseon with window sea views: Café 7 Budu

In short

Café 7 Budu (표선카페 7부두) is a two-floor, retro harbor-themed café facing Pyoseon Beach in Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju. On a summer day of on-and-off rain, the writer watched the rainy sea through Café 7 Budu's big windows over a clay-pot homemade patbingsu (red bean shaved ice) and an iced Americano, and especially loved the milk ice and the homemade red beans that keep their whole-bean texture. Café 7 Budu is a great fit for anyone who wants to sit comfortably and watch the Jeju sea on a rainy day.

What kind of place is Café 7 Budu?

Café 7 Budu (표선카페 7부두) is a café in Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju, where you can really enjoy the sea view. The atmosphere and interior are so pretty that it's a place I keep wanting to go back to and keep thinking about.

Café 7 Budu is open from 8 AM until 11 PM, so it was a place where you can take your time and relax late into the evening.

Are there menu items good for going with parents?

Café 7 Budu has drinks that older folks tend to love, like jujube tea, ssanghwa tea (a traditional herbal tea) and ginger beombeok tea, so it's a good place to visit with your parents. Doesn't the café even have a really familiar, homey feel?!

Size and atmosphere

Café 7 Budu spans the 1st and 2nd floors, so it's quite spacious. When the weather is nice, you can also sit outdoors.

The vibe is lovely and great for taking photos. It's a mood-lifting café where you can rest in a space that blends the blue Jeju sea with a European retro feel.

The moment you walk into Café 7 Budu, Pyoseon Beach unfolds outside the window. It's like a painting, isn't it!? I was honestly amazed the second I walked in. Every sea in Jeju is just so pretty, and I feel it every time I come. I always arrive totally hooked on the ocean, so being able to sit comfortably here and enjoy this scenery was wonderful.

The interior was gorgeous everywhere I looked. The weather lately is so hot and humid, and on the day of my Jeju trip it rained on and off... and when you walk you start sweating.. so I dropped by Café 7 Budu to cool off.

What's on the menu at Café 7 Budu?

The menu at Café 7 Budu is really varied, and I found it very appealing that so much is made by hand in-house. The fisherman ice cream, a signature item made with squid ink, vanilla and 100% cocoa, was really popular. There are also persimmon smoothies, apple mango smoothies and more.

And the clay-pot homemade patbingsu (red bean shaved ice) is the one you really must eat when you come to Café 7 Budu. A clay pot full of milk ice with fruit all around it. How could you not order that! In weather this hot, you lose out if you leave without having patbingsu.

There are also plenty of desserts like cakes, tarts and dried persimmon cream cheese rolls, and every one of them looked delicious and distinctive.

How was the Pyoseon sea view on a rainy day?

On a rainy day, the sea seen through the big windows of Café 7 Budu was wonderfully atmospheric. Rain kept streaming down outside, and sipping a cup of coffee while looking at the hazy, dreamy sea was so relaxing.

The 2nd-floor view and photo spots

The view from the 2nd floor of Café 7 Budu was beautiful too. A harbor mood and retro feel run through every corner of the interior. Every photo I took felt like a little piece of art, and I came away with lots of Instagram shots.

How was the clay-pot homemade patbingsu?

And now, today's star: the homemade patbingsu! Honestly, it was the item I was looking forward to most when I walked into Café 7 Budu. In humid, hot summer weather like this, nothing beats shaved ice, right? Patbingsu especially gives you both the cooling and the filling, so it's my favorite in weather like this.

Doesn't it look amazing!? Various toppings sit on a heaping mound of ice, and every ingredient was fresh. It was my first time eating patbingsu in a clay pot, and because the red beans are homemade, they were on another level from the patbingsu I know: nutty and thick and chewy, so appealing.

There were chewy rice cakes on top, and among the soft, moist textures of ice, red beans and fruit, the chewiness of the rice cakes went together really well.

And then there's the pleasure of a cold Americano while looking at the sea! The nutty flavor and the cool caffeine melted away the whole day's tiredness.

Shaved ice made from milk ice

The ice in the patbingsu at Café 7 Budu isn't regular water ice but milk ice, frozen from milk. The moment it goes in your mouth it melts away and spreads a nutty, soft milk flavor. Compared with regular ice it was much denser and softer, so it went well with the other ingredients too.

Homemade red beans with the grains intact

The red beans, the heart of patbingsu, are made by hand at Café 7 Budu, and they were a different league from store-bought ones. They aren't too sweet and keep the red bean's own nutty flavor, and each bean stays whole instead of getting mushed, so the chew was good too. Patbingsu sold elsewhere often has beans so soft they turn into porridge, but here the beans were plump and intact, and with every bite that nutty, clean red bean flavor spread. The sweetness was gentle, not harsh, so I never got tired of it.

Korean melon, watermelon, corn and cereal toppings

On top of the clay-pot patbingsu were big pieces of chamoe (Korean melon) and watermelon, both classic summer fruits. The chamoe was crunchy with a subtle sweetness, and the watermelon burst with juice the moment I bit in. Eating the patbingsu together with the fruit was seriously delicious. There were also corn kernels and cereal as toppings, so the textures were fun and every bite had a clear point.

Café 7 Budu: overall verdict

It's not just the shaved ice that's good at Café 7 Budu; I really liked the space itself too. The retro interior and harbor concept blend into an emotional atmosphere, and it fit surprisingly well with the calm mood of a rainy day. Café 7 Budu was a great-vibe spot that gives tired travelers a comfortable rest.
