In short

Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch is a large live-fish sashimi restaurant in Yeonsu Plaza, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, within walking distance of Yeonsu Station. The mixed sashimi platter for two came with red seabream, flounder, rockfish, salmon and seasonal fish, alongside a self-serve salad bar, a make-your-own kimchi pancake corner and hwangtae miyeokguk (dried pollack seaweed soup). Among Yeonsu-dong sashimi restaurants, this one felt like the best for a large space with fresh live-fish sashimi and lots of side dishes to go with it! That's Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch 🖤

Location and size: walking distance from Yeonsu Station, with parking

Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch is on the 2nd floor of Yeonsu Plaza! There's parking, and it's walkable from Yeonsu Station — very convenient 👍

What's especially great about this place is that unlike a typical sashimi restaurant where you just eat and leave, you also get a range of basic side dishes and a self-serve bar~

It really has a huge hall plus separate rooms, high chairs, and parking — perfect conditions for a family meal, a work dinner, or a gathering 👍

The place was genuinely massive!! I was honestly surprised at how big it was haha. Maybe that's why a company dinner was already going on when we got there >.< There looked to be a lot of people, but the space was huge enough to fit them all

What comes on the mixed sashimi platter for two

That day we ordered the mixed platter~ There were so many combos to choose from, and we went with the platter for two featuring red seabream, flounder, rockfish, salmon and seasonal sashimi!

You could tell right away the place was kept very clean, and another great thing about Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch is the self-serve salad bar!

You take as much as you need — lettuce and perilla leaves for wrapping, plus various sides and sauces~

On one side of the salad bar there's a self-serve kimchi pancake corner where you fry your own — I loved that so much haha. You grab the batter and cook it yourself, so waiting for food never feels boring, and a fresh kimchi pancake is perfect with drinks 😆

Side dishes and hwangtae miyeokguk: why it worked with kids

Our whole order was laid out 😍 This is the mixed platter for two we ordered — the portion was bigger than it looks in photos!

Mixed platter for two set out with basic side dishes
Table with basic side dishes and salad

First, the basic side dishes come out with salad, which was great for nibbling on while waiting for the sashimi — and especially with the hwangtae miyeokguk that arrived, I mixed it into rice for my kid and he polished off the whole bowl haha. The soup wasn't bland at all, it was well-seasoned and delicious — total pass!! lol

How did the sashimi taste? Red seabream, flounder, rockfish and salmon

And true to a Yeonsu-dong sashimi favorite, the plate arrived with several types of sashimi laid out neatly and beautifully — it looked amazing too haha

Gorgeous, right? ❣

The sashimi itself was so, so fresh, cut into just the right size and thickness — it looked delicious at first glance +_+ Look at how glossy the sashimi is..!👏🏻

Close-up of glossy, fresh sashimi

In the end, after debating whether to drink today, I caved and mixed a somaek (soju-beer cocktail)... lol 😆😆

The salmon was clearly very fresh, and one bite had zero fishy smell, just rich and delicious — my elementary schooler son ate it all up 😆 The red seabream had a chewy, firm texture that I loved 🧡

The flounder and buri (not 100% sure on the name) were mild and rich with a sweet finish — so good!! Getting to eat everything from clean white fish to soft, rich salmon on one plate is such a treat haha

Putting sashimi on aged kimchi with just one hot pepper on top made it so chewy and delicious ㅠㅠ

Homemade kimchi pancake fried until crispy

We also made a proper job of frying the kimchi pancake haha. It came out nice and crispy, so we kept going back for more 😘

What fell short: check that the grilled fish and corn cheese arrive

So, we kept waiting for the grilled fish and corn cheese that never came, and when we asked the owner, they first said à la carte sashimi orders don't include them, then came back later apologizing that they'd forgotten and brought us grilled saury and corn cheese...???🙄

According to the menu board, grilled fish and corn cheese are part of the mixed platter set, so if it seems like the owner got busy and forgot, ask for them haha. We got ours way too late and barely got to eat the grilled fish before we had to leave ㅠㅠ

Who should eat at Veteran General Fish Market in Yeonsu-dong?
