Yesterday I couldn't decide what to eat for lunch, then a hearty cube steak donburi (rice bowl) started calling my name 😋 So let me introduce Hekbap Kkachisan Branch, a Japanese home-style donburi and ramen spot that's great for a relaxed meal on your own, like a pro solo diner!!
Where is Hekbap Kkachisan Branch and how do you get there?
Hekbap Kkachisan Branch is at 35 Gangseo-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, South Korea, on the 2nd floor of the Lotteria building. It's a 2-minute walk (about 99 m) from Exit 3 of Kkachisan Station, so it's really easy to reach and I found it quickly. It's open daily 11:00-21:00, with a break time of 15:00-16:30.

Hekbap (핵밥) is a chain you'd know from the name alone, and I'd been craving a rice bowl for a while, so I dropped by haha

Once you're inside the building, just take the stairs up to the 2nd floor.

Is Hekbap Kkachisan Branch good for eating alone?
The inside is spacious and kept clean, and I liked it from the first impression. The tables are nicely spaced, mostly for 2 or 4 people, so it looks good for solo meals as well as dates or family dinners.

The window seats have floor-to-ceiling glass, so it feels open and not stuffy at all. There are plenty of disposable aprons hanging on the wall too, so grab one if you need it :) Each table is neatly set with a phone stand, a hair tie, shichimi (Japanese chili pepper blend), water and paper cups.

Hekbap Kkachisan Branch menu and prices I paid
Every seat has a tablet, so ordering and paying was easy. As a Japanese home-style donburi and ramen shop, it has a wide range of rice bowls, ramen, udon, soba, curry and sides, so there are lots of choices 😊 I ordered Hekbap's best-seller 🌟 the cube steak donburi set, plus a potato croquette, fried shrimp and a Pepsi Zero.
- Cube steak donburi set ₩16,900
- Fried shrimp (1 piece) ₩4,500
- Potato croquette ₩3,500
- Pepsi Zero ₩2,000

If you join Hekbap's Naver receipt review event, they give you a free can of soda.

Open the drawer in the table and you'll find a spoon, chopsticks, napkins and wet wipes. The spoon and chopsticks are individually wrapped, which is nice for hygiene.

I was bored before the food came, so I flipped open the "magic solution" book on the table 📖 and it said "Wait with an open mind" haha

There's also a detailed guide on how to enjoy your rice bowl the best way haha

What comes with the cube steak donburi set, and how does it taste?
The Hekbap cube steak donburi set comes with the rice bowl, mini udon, karaage (Japanese fried chicken), pickled radish, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and cheese rice cake. Ta-da ✨️ the star of the day has arrived, and it's a generous, tidy spread haha

You can't have a cube steak donburi without a fizzy cola~~😉 Pepsi Zero lime is my absolute favorite 🫶💚

The donburi is piled high with cube steak grilled right after you order, and it looked delicious just sitting there. A sight that makes your mouth water,, 🤤

I scooped up some rice, piled on the meat and a good amount of sharp wasabi, and took a bite. The sweet-and-salty sauce and the plain, savory steak flavor blend together the more you chew. Absolutely delicious 😍

The mini udon in the set has a salty broth and chewy noodles, which was just my style 🍜 It paired perfectly with the rice bowl. I ate the crunchy pickled radish and the tangy, well-fermented kkakdugi between bites, and they cleaned up my palate nicely.

How was the potato croquette side?
The potato croquette I ordered as a side (₩3,500) 🥔

I dipped it in the sauce and took a bite: crispy outside, soft inside, the textbook example 🌟 It's packed with soft, nutty potato, so good 🧡💛

The cube steak donburi is easy to scoop up in big bites 🤎 I mixed the rice thoroughly, put the meat on top and went nom nom nom. The seasoning is on the strong side, so the savory flavor just explodes haha Looking at the photos, I want to eat it again,, 😋

The sauce drizzled on the karaage was so good. The chewy, soft cheese rice cake was a treat too 🤍

Is an extra fried shrimp worth adding?
The fried shrimp (₩4,500 for 1) is crispy outside, with plump shrimp that fills your mouth, and the texture was great 🍤

As a big eater, I scraped everything clean again today. I honestly almost burst,, hahaha It made a perfect filling meal 👍
Final verdict on Hekbap Kkachisan Branch
The whole restaurant was impressively well kept, and a male staff member served me kindly, so I left after a pleasant lunch ☺️ If you're looking for a Japanese home-style donburi restaurant near Kkachisan Station, I recommend visiting Hekbap Kkachisan Branch 👍
