Jeonpo, Busan pizza place with refillable Berg filter coffee: Pickles

Jeonpo-dong has so many great restaurants that every visit comes with a happy dilemma about what to eat. This time I went with a friend to Pickles, a Jeonpo pizza place with loads of New York vibes! The pizza, armed with crisp-outside, chewy-inside dough and fresh ingredients, was exactly my taste. Review time, go~*^^*

How to get to Pickles in Jeonpo, and parking

Pickles is a pizza restaurant about a 3-minute walk from Exit 7 of Jeonpo Station on the Busan subway, practically right around the corner. It is open 11:00–21:00, and since there is no private parking, you use a nearby paid lot.

It is a two-story standalone building, with Pickles on the first floor and a café on the second. Like most places in Jeonpo, there is no private parking, but you can park in a nearby paid lot! (Nearby lots: Jeonpo Station lot, Woongjin lot, Duwon lot, etc.)

What are the wait and the interior like?

Pickles is also famous as a Jeonpo spot with a wait, so my friend and I arrived right at the 11:00 opening and were first in line. Haha. Even on a weekday, the place filled up in under 30 minutes, and watching that I thought, wow, it really is hot.

We sat by the window, and the view outside looked so exotic that it felt like traveling far away. The lighting and overall interior are warm and cozy, so it also felt as comfortable as visiting a friend's home.

Pickles has a variety of table setups, so choosing where to sit is part of the fun. The sofa and chair cushions are comfortable too, so it's great for sitting a long time and chatting~^^

The round bar table reminds me of New York scenes in movies. Ah, will I ever get to go to New York in my lifetime~ haha.

It's a fully open kitchen, which makes you trust the place even more. The staff were all so kind, which made it an even nicer time.

Menu and prices for two

The two of us ordered the half-and-half pizza + pasta set (discounted) for ₩39,000. For the pizza we chose half jambon-beurre (ham and butter) and half beef cheeseburger, and for the pasta, puttanesca.

My friend had cola and I had Berg filter coffee. Even the cola isn't just handed over as a can: it comes in a glass with ice and a lemon, what a detail! And filter coffee at a pizza place is so new to me?! Honestly I didn't order it expecting great coffee, but the gentle acidity and clean finish went better with pizza than soda would. And you can even get a refill...!

How does the jambon-beurre pizza taste?

The half-and-half pizza we ordered (jambon-beurre + beef cheeseburger) was the perfect size for two people. However good a pizza is, I usually can't manage more than two slices, but after one bite it crossed my mind that I could probably finish a whole Pickles pizza if I pushed a little.. haha.

You can see the freshness of the ingredients at a glance! The jambon-beurre pizza pairs the salty savoriness of the ham with fresh arugula in a fantastic combination. Add pieces of butter, pistachios, honey and tomato sauce, and it feels like a feast of flavors in your mouth. It was a totally different style from any pizza I've had, so it felt fresh and satisfying.

Pickles' dough is crisp outside, chewy inside

The crisp-outside, chewy-inside dough of the pizza at Pickles, a Jeonpo pizza favorite, is on another level. The crust is crunchy, and when you tear the inside by hand it doesn't snap in the middle but stretches and stretches~~~ with a wonderful chew and moisture.

How does the beef cheeseburger pizza taste?

The other half of the half-and-half pizza was the beef cheeseburger. It was a familiar-tasting pizza packed with beef, cheddar cheese, romaine and onion. The chewy texture of the beef was especially appealing, and the cheddar was really generous, so as a cheese lover I felt very well treated^^

How does the puttanesca pasta at Pickles taste?

Puttanesca is a tomato-based pasta that originated in Naples, Italy. Pickles' puttanesca has anchovies, olives, cherry tomatoes, celery and pistachios, giving it a salty, deeply savory charm. The freshness of the tomato, the depth of the olives and the saltiness of the anchovies come together so the flavor lingers after you finish, well, anyway, it was delicious. haha.

Is it enough food for two?

The half-and-half pizza + pasta set was more food than I expected, so I wondered whether the two of us could finish it, but that worry was totally unnecessary. Including a coffee refill, we cleaned our plates and left happy.^^

Along with the New York-vibe interior, the music adds a lot to the atmosphere. Ah, is this Busan or abroad~ It felt so exotic, which I loved about Pickles, the Jeonpo-dong pizza place! I'll definitely have to come back for other menu items.
