Gangneung sashimi restaurant pension takeout, ₩80,000 set: Samsami-ne

Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch is a 25-year-old ocean-view sashimi restaurant standing right in front of Gyeongpodae Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon. On a mother-daughter trip, the value red sea bream yubiki sashimi + mulhoe set for two (₩80,000) was ordered as takeout and eaten back at the pension, and the side dishes and sauces came doubled for two people — generous enough that the pair left food behind. The red sea bream yubiki struck a good balance between skin and flesh, with the chew of live-fish sashimi and the savoury depth of aged sashimi in one bite.

Gangneung makguksu restaurant: salmon keto buckwheat gimbap at Gossi's

Gossi's Donghae Makguksu & Sundubu Kalguksu Main Branch is a makguksu (buckwheat cold noodle) restaurant right in front of Gangmun Beach in Gangneung, with sea views through the second floor's floor-to-ceiling windows. The meal was pollack sikhae bibim makguksu at 12,000 won and perilla oil makguksu at 11,000 won, plus a kimchi buckwheat pancake and a salmon keto buckwheat gimbap topped with whole slices of raw salmon. Dogs are welcome, baby chairs are ready, and the Gangmun Beach public lot gives one free hour, so Gossi's works well as the first meal of a Gangneung trip.
