Bongpyeong buckwheat restaurant with a Siksin 1-star: Memil Migayeon

Let me introduce a restaurant I found and visited myself on this Pyeongchang trip, paid for with my own money. I figured that if you're in Pyeongchang, you really should try buckwheat dishes at least once, so after searching around I visited Migayeon in Bongpyeong. It's a place that's been getting a lot of buzz in Pyeongchang lately! I received partial sponsorship, but this is a review of a meal I paid for myself.

Why Bongpyeong is the place to eat buckwheat in Pyeongchang

Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon is a buckwheat noodle and buckwheat dish specialist located at 108 Gipung-ro, Bongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do. When planning a Pyeongchang trip and searching for good restaurants in Gangwon's Pyeongchang, you'll see tons of buckwheat or makguksu (buckwheat noodle) places come up. Among them, Bongpyeong is especially famous for buckwheat, so if Bongpyeong was on my Pyeongchang itinerary, I definitely wanted to try buckwheat dishes.

Migayeon, the place I visited this time, specializes in buckwheat noodles and buckwheat dishes in Bongpyeong. Looking at the current menu, there's a wide range of buckwheat-based dishes, including buckwheat sprout boiled pork, buckwheat sprout beef tartare, beef tartare bibim noodles, and buckwheat noodles.

The certificates caught my eye the moment I walked in! There was a 2026 Siksin 1-Star Restaurant certificate hanging on the wall. I already knew it was a famous place before visiting, but seeing the certificate inside the restaurant raised my expectations for the food even more.

Inside, there were also lots of photos from TV features and visits by well-known figures. It had that distinct old, established-restaurant vibe, and it seemed like not just tourists but families visited a lot too. Overall it was clean but had the comfortable feel typical of a Korean restaurant. Since we came for buckwheat dishes, this kind of comfortable, unpretentious atmosphere actually suited the meal well.

Parking at Migayeon and how far it is from Phoenix Park

From the outside, it looks like this. The hanok-style roof and building stand out, so you should be able to spot it easily even just passing by. Parking is available, so it's convenient for people traveling around Pyeongchang by car too — current info confirms parking is available. If you're looking for good restaurants near Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang, I'd especially recommend heading over to Bongpyeong to try buckwheat dishes. If you're searching for something distinctly Pyeongchang near Phoenix Park, buckwheat dishes are a pretty good choice.

What's on the menu at Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon

Looking at the menu, there were more buckwheat dishes than I expected. The main ones were:

• 100% hanwoo bulgogi buckwheat noodles
• Buckwheat sprout beef tartare
• Buckwheat sprout boiled pork

If you're visiting with several people, it seems better to order a variety of dishes to share rather than just one. That's what we did too, ordering a bit of everything.

The full buckwheat spread that arrived at the table

As the dishes started coming out one by one, the table got pretty full. From buckwheat noodles to buckwheat pancake, there was such a variety that it made for a great spread for a group visit. Everything was also plated cleanly, so it made for good photos too.

Buckwheat pancake and buckwheat bibim noodles

We started with the buckwheat pancake. Since it's fried thin, it had a light, nutty flavor. Eating only buckwheat noodles can get a bit plain, but adding a buckwheat pancake made the meal feel much more filling! We also tried the bibim noodles topped with red sauce, and the noodles' distinct nutty flavor paired well with the seasoning.

The buckwheat noodles were piled high with roasted seaweed flakes, buckwheat sprouts, and vegetables. Mixing the noodles well with the sauce lets you taste both the nutty aroma of the buckwheat and the flavor of the seasoning together. I especially liked how the buckwheat sprouts added a crunchy texture. If you like buckwheat, I think you'd really enjoy this style of buckwheat dish.

Hanwoo beef tartare bibimbap with lettuce wraps

We also ordered the hanwoo beef tartare bibimbap. As expected from the home of hanwoo beef, the meat was so delicious and fresh. It came with lettuce for wraps on the side too, and eating it wrapped in lettuce was a nice, fresh touch. Personally, I like places where not just the main dish but the sides come out nicely done too, so I was satisfied.

Who should eat at Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon

While eating the buckwheat dishes, I also felt that buckwheat tastes even better in Bongpyeong because of the added travel atmosphere! This visit was really paid for with my own money, so writing honestly about my personal impressions, I think it's a place worth visiting at least once if you want to properly try buckwheat dishes in Pyeongchang.

Since Bongpyeong itself is a region famous for buckwheat, this place would suit anyone looking for regionally distinctive food during a Pyeongchang trip. Migayeon is currently featured in various restaurant guides as a Bongpyeong buckwheat noodle spot, with buckwheat noodles, beef tartare, and makguksu as its signature dishes. Above all, I like trying famous local food whenever I travel, and since I made it all the way to Bongpyeong this time, I felt satisfied having properly experienced buckwheat.
