What is Gimssi Chicken in Suyu Traditional Market?
Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch (김씨치킨 수유시장점) is a chicken shop inside Suyu Traditional Market in Gangbuk-gu that fries dakgangjeong fresh, again and again. It's a must-eat dakgangjeong spot at the market, the line never seems to end, and I hear it's run by the third generation in Seoul. I visited Suyu Traditional Market, a Gangbuk hot spot that's always lively and bustling!!

Suyu Traditional Market's famous queue-worthy spot: Gimssi Chicken, where the dakgangjeong is delicious

Recently the TV show 'What Do You Do When You Play?' stopped by, and lots of YouTube videos introduce Gimssi Chicken as a traditional market favorite too!!
Getting to Suyu Traditional Market and what to bring
Suyu Traditional Market is quite a large market even by Seoul standards, and there's a bus stop right in front, so it's easy to reach! There are so many tasty places in Suyu Market, so do try it as a Seoul date course~

A Gangbuk hot spot packed with things to buy and eat. And to think only the older folks used to come here?! It's a must-visit Gangbuk course before it gets even hotter~ Today's destination is Gimssi Chicken!! What to prepare for a market visit: a shopping bag and cash!!

How long is the wait at Gimssi Chicken?
Gimssi Chicken fries everything right after you order, so I waited about 15 minutes. Orders keep coming in and the dakgangjeong keeps frying without a break!!! Here's one tip: if you're only doing a quick bit of shopping, order first and then go shop~ I can't give up that freshly fried taste!

Gimssi Chicken menu and buying small amounts by cut
The Gimssi Chicken menu has fried chicken and dakgangjeong, and old-style whole chicken (tongdak) too. You can enjoy a variety of dishes depending on your taste.

They also sell small amounts by the piece, so when you want chicken just for yourself, you can order exactly the pieces you want without any pressure. Stop by the market on your way home from work, grab some chicken and enjoy chicken and beer solo~~~ That's what I call a small but certain happiness!

What payment methods does Gimssi Chicken accept?
Gimssi Chicken seems to take everything: Seoul Pay, Zero Pay, Kakao Pay and more~ Wow! Bank transfer works too, so even if you think 'Oh no, I left my wallet at home???' don't worry~

Gimssi Chicken sauces at ₩500 each
Sauces at Gimssi Chicken are ₩500 each, so you can pick to suit your taste. Mustard sauce is perfect with the old-style whole chicken: tear off a tender drumstick and dip it in that sharp mustard!! And the seasoned chicken sauce is just right for crispy fried chicken. There's an extra spicy one too~

Even while I waited for my order, the line kept going. People of all ages come, so if you're at the market shopping you should probably take some chicken home~ When someone says they've been to the market, I always wonder, 'Did you bring back something tasty?' hehe haha

Dakgangjeong is the most ordered item at Gimssi Chicken. Fry it, toss it in sauce, repeat forever~~~ It's oddly fun to watch. A kind of dakgangjeong trance, you could say? haha

Gimssi Chicken bone-in fried chicken for ₩9,900: how did it taste?
Finally my order was ready!! I carried it off feeling its warmth~ The savory smell was wafting up and I had a huge urge to pull one out and eat it right there!

Gimssi Chicken's boneless fried chicken is ₩9,900!!! Is there any chicken these days that costs under ₩10,000? Over ₩20,000 is normal, so ₩9,900 is amazing!!! Truly great value~ I'll be back whenever I crave fried chicken!!

Freshly fried, so crispy, and the oil drains off so well, it was so good!! The chicken was juicy~ At under ₩10,000, this is pure happiness for one ₩10,000 bill!

Nostalgic old-style takeout packaging
The packaging is a cheat code... how could this possibly not taste good? The old-style look stirs up memories, and the box alone gets you excited... Gimssi Chicken, isn't this against the rules~?

Gimssi Chicken dakgangjeong sizes and spice levels
If I come home from the market with dakgangjeong... I'll be so happy~

Gimssi Chicken's dakgangjeong comes in medium, large and extra large, and what I took home was the medium! The chicken is soaked in tasty sauce, and you can adjust the spice level, so it's perfect as a kids' snack or as a drink snack for adults.

Gimssi Chicken, the queue-worthy spot in Suyu Market where I ate so happily at a great price. If you're planning to visit Suyu Market, make a note of it!!
