Gyeongju hanjeongsik restaurant near Bulguksa with parking: Neulbom

When we were planning our family trip to Gyeongju, the first thing on my mind was: is there anywhere good to eat near Bulguksa Temple? I was worried because the area around Bulguksa doesn't have nearly as many good restaurants as somewhere like near Cheomseongdae, but then I found Neulbom, a Bulguksa-area restaurant with a huge private parking lot, and we had a delicious hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) there.

Here's my review of Neulbom, which I'd recommend as a great restaurant near Bulguksa in Gyeongju.

The first thing I always check when heading to a restaurant is whether there's parking. Neulbom has this huge private parking lot right in front, so even though it was raining, we could park right by the door and walk straight in — so convenient.

Is there a wait at Neulbom on weekdays?

Yes — there was a wait even on our Tuesday weekday visit. We went on a weekday, and I was surprised at how packed it was — the place was full and there was even a waitlist.

You enter your info into the machine right outside the store to join the waitlist. Luckily we'd made a reservation ahead of time, so we got seated right away without waiting👏👏

It's not common to see a place this busy on a weekday — Neulbom must already be a well-known spot. Seeing so many families made me think a lot of them were on Gyeongju family trips too, stopping in for Korean food.

We visited with our baby, and thankfully they had a baby chair, so we could sit our little one right beside us and eat comfortably. I was honestly surprised at how many other customers had babies with them too🥹

What comes with Neulbom's river snail hot pot rice set for two

Neulbom's best menu item is the ureong sotbap jeongsik (river snail rice cooked in a hot pot, served as a set meal), so we ordered two. Looking at the menu, there were plenty of other Korean dishes like tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) and bulgogi, but this was clearly the standout.

Even though they were clearly slammed, our food came out faster than expected. And the table was absolutely packed — jaw-dropping spread🥹🥹

The sotbap (hot pot rice) was freshly cooked, so even eaten on its own it was fluffy and delicious. Then the bulgogi arrived — a textbook sweet-and-savory flavor that pretty much everyone would like.

The bulgogi here is seriously excellent...!!!👏

What made it feel like such great value was that we even got grilled fish, which I don't usually eat much of, so we could try a bit of everything. On top of that there was soft tofu stew and ureong (river snail) doenjang dip, perfect for wrapping in vegetables as ssambap (lettuce-wrapped rice).

Don't skip the nurungji at the bottom of the hot pot

The proper way to finish sotbap is to scoop the rice out, pour in sungnyung (rice water) and eat the crispy scorched rice at the bottom as nurungji.

With vegetables, fish, and meat all evenly covered, plus the toasty nurungji on top, it was such a filling, satisfying meal to start the trip with.

I really recommend trying the combo of bulgogi with ureong doenjang wrapped in vegetables🥹🥹 Another great thing was the self-serve vegetable bar, where you could scoop as many extra veggies as you wanted👏

Why Neulbom works for a family meal near Bulguksa

Looking into the area around Bulguksa, there really aren't many places to eat. Near Cheomseongdae there are tons of good restaurants and lots of foot traffic, so I honestly didn't expect much from the Bulguksa side. But seeing Neulbom as the only place near Bulguksa with such a long wait and so many customers, I understood exactly why it's known as a true local favorite.

On top of that, the staff kept smiling and greeting people warmly even while incredibly busy, which made the short wait outside feel pleasant. It was such a satisfying, filling meal to kick off the first day of our trip — Neulbom, a great restaurant near Bulguksa in Gyeongju. If you're heading to Bulguksa, I'd definitely recommend it.
