Vegan mushroom pizza at a Yeonnam-dong Italian restaurant: Classicdang

The good thing about summer is that it's still bright out after work, so evenings feel a bit longer. After work, I met up with a friend in Yeonnam-dong to catch up over dinner, and we went to a cozy Italian restaurant.

Classicdang's interior is quite spacious with a warm, cozy design, so it seemed like a great place for a wedding invitation gathering or a date. You can book through Naver Reservation for up to 10 people, and with the vegan menu options and pet-friendly seating, it really stood out as a great spot for a group meetup, atmosphere-wise especially.

What is on the menu at Classicdang

The menu had simple pre-meal bread and salad, pizza, pasta and risotto, plus a striploin steak option at a good price. You could pair everything with wine, beer, or other drinks for a fuller meal. There was a good variety of classic Italian dishes, so it seemed like a great place to enjoy a range of options if you come with a group.

We ordered the quattro funghi pizza for 23,000 won and the potato gnocchi for 17,000 won.

Quattro funghi pizza, 23,000 won — all mushrooms, no meat

Classicdang's quattro funghi (four mushroom) pizza comes with truffle oil drizzled over four kinds of mushrooms, and that mushroom-truffle combo is always a winner. Fresh out of the wood-fired oven, the dough was soft, and the crust had that smoky char flavor, so I could enjoy the pizza all the way to the edge.

My friend has recently been cutting out meat because it hasn't been agreeing with her body, so being able to enjoy a pizza made entirely of mushrooms without any worry felt great — vegans would enjoy this too. These days it feels like more people have their own dietary sensitivities, and tastes are splitting toward fish or vegetable dishes alongside meat depending on constitution or preference. It really does seem like restaurants with vegan options or pet-friendly seating make for the best meetup spots these days.

Potato gnocchi, 17,000 won — crisp outside, chewy inside, small portion

Then I ordered the potato gnocchi, which I really love. At first glance, it came out browned like roasted whole garlic cloves, looking a bit different from the gnocchi I was used to. Once I tried it, though, I realized the pieces were smaller than usual, which gave the outside a crispier feel and made for an even better texture.

The bacon and spices on top gave it a nice salty kick that I really enjoyed. If you like creamy risotto or chewy potato textures, you'll probably love this gnocchi.
