Why we chose Songdo Jonghap Eosijang during our Songdo hotel stay
Songdo Jonghap Eosijang (송도종합어시장) is known as a Songdo sashimi restaurant with a ₩12,000-per-person lunch special set. This time we missed the lunch special hours, so we had the small halibut and rockfish platter for dinner. A sashimi lover (my husband, that is) comes to Songdo, and it's near the sea, so of course we have to eat raw fish, right? haha
While searching for a sashimi place in Songdo, I found Songdo Jonghap Eosijang, with an amazing lunch special set [live sashimi + sushi + sea squirt + shrimp tempura + steamed egg + spicy fish stew + seasoned vegetables + self-serve bar], all for ₩12,000 per person. The lunch special only runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., so sadly we gave it up and decided to have sashimi for dinner :-)

Where is Songdo Jonghap Eosijang, and is there parking?
Songdo Jonghap Eosijang is only a 5–10 minute walk from Songdo Central Park, so it was easy to find. There's also parking in the building, so it's convenient if you come by car!
Songdo Jonghap Eosijang menu and prices
The menu is roughly divided into seasonal sashimi, assorted platters for trying a variety, seokkosi (thin-sliced bone-in sashimi), seafood, sushi and meal dishes. We ordered the small halibut and rockfish platter. If you order sashimi, you can add spicy fish stew (maeuntang) for ₩9,000.

Songdo Jonghap Eosijang sells fresh sashimi at low prices, and they say it's top-grade live fish brought in fresh every dawn from Yeonan Pier. From the tank cleaning to the prep process, you could feel their pride in cleanliness. Between the lunch special set and the sashimi itself, the value is great, making it an easy place to enjoy fresh sashimi without worrying about the bill.
✨For people on a Songdo hotel stay like us, or anyone planning takeout: you get more food for the price, and I hear they take ₩3,000 off, so keep that in mind✨

The restaurant is also fairly spacious, so this Songdo sashimi restaurant works for group gatherings and company dinners too.

Is the small halibut and rockfish platter enough for two?
The small halibut and rockfish platter was plenty for the two of us as a couple, and the table was filled with side dishes too. Our son was asleep, so we pushed chairs together to lay him down and sat side by side, just my husband and me, eating^^;;haha

The standard spread is quite generous. If we'd come with our child, I bet he'd have done fine with a bowl of rice plus the steamed egg, grilled saury and seaweed soup. There was also sushi rice that goes well with fresh live sashimi, plus aged kimchi and seasoned vegetables, which are great with the fish.

We ordered the small size since there were only two of us, and my husband is such a sashimi lover that I worried it wouldn't be enough, but even the small was quite generous!

Thick-cut live-fish sashimi: what the texture is like
Freshly caught, fresh and springy sashimi!

At Songdo Jonghap Eosijang the sashimi doesn't come sliced thin and long. It's cut thick, in bite-size pieces, so the chew is really good.

Even my beloved, nutty fin meat was perfect! This is all mine!

Best ways to eat the sashimi at Songdo Jonghap Eosijang
The halibut and rockfish were tasty dipped in salt-and-sesame-oil sauce rather than chojang (sweet-spicy chili vinegar sauce), and my husband's best combo was sashimi + aged kimchi + wasabi + salt-oil sauce. I'm team chojang, he's team oil sauce!
I asked the staff for salt-oil sauce and dipped in it, and the fish is so good that even just dipping it in salt instead of chojang works. When sashimi is this fresh, its natural sweetness really comes through, which makes it even better.

My sashimi-obsessed husband's pick: sashimi with aged kimchi
My sashimi-loving husband's pick~! The tastiest way to eat sashimi! Sashimi + aged kimchi + wasabi + salt-oil sauce!! This is the one, seriously. Lots of sashimi places these days don't give you aged kimchi, but Songdo Jonghap Eosijang does, a smart touch from people who know good taste.

DIY fin sushi with the sushi rice
They also bring sushi rice so you can make your own sushi. I topped it with the tastiest fin meat and wasabi, and it was really good~! Sashimi alone can get a little boring and you start craving carbs, so the sushi rice was a very smart touch.

Lettuce wraps with makjang sauce and a sashimi rice bowl with seasoned vegetables
The springy sashimi is good on its own, but it's also good wrapped in a leaf with ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste).

Piling the seasoned vegetables and plenty of sashimi into one wrap, like a veggie sashimi salad, is refreshing and delicious. If you order a bowl of rice and mix in the vegetables and sashimi, that's basically hoedeopbap (sashimi rice bowl)!

My husband was happily gulping down his soju... I'm jealous... haha. Fresh, tasty sashimi never gets old. I need to have our second baby soon so I can have a drink with my husband over sashimi again!

Final verdict on Songdo Jonghap Eosijang, a sashimi restaurant in Songdo
🐟 Songdo Jonghap Eosijang nails both value and freshness as a Songdo live-fish sashimi spot! From the reasonable prices and quite generous starter side dishes even when you just order sashimi, to the thick, chewy fish, and the smart sushi rice and aged kimchi combo, nothing fell short. It was a satisfying dinner.
I'd heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a proper sashimi restaurant near Songdo Central Park, or good-value takeout sashimi during a hotel stay. Next time we're in Songdo, I want to come back for the ₩12,000 lunch special sashimi set with its generous spread.
