Mild soy jjimdak for kids in Songdo, 29,000 won: Eonyang Dak Kalguksu

In short

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch is a chicken kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup) and jjimdak (braised chicken) restaurant on Haedoji-ro in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, across from the Songdo food market. On an early weekday evening with two children, the order was soy braised chicken at 29,000 won plus two bowls of rice, and the platter was so large the table had to be swapped from three seats to four; it would feed three adults, so the leftovers went home in a takeout box. The soy jjimdak is not spicy at all, which makes it easy for kids, and it tastes best with the spicy fresh kimchi from the self-serve bar.

First photo from the visit to Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch. Today I went with my sisters Lin for an early weekday dinner at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch! I'm so bad with directions haha, I was checking the map with the kids in tow, and suddenly this amazing food smell started drifting over. I found the place by smell before I even saw the sign ^-^

Why we moved from a table for three to a table for four

If you're ordering jjimdak at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch, a 4-person table is much more comfortable. At first, my eldest, my youngest and I sat side by side to look out the window while we ate.

But once we said we were ordering jjimdak, staff let us know the plate is quite large, so we moved straight to a 4-person table. And once the food came out, the plate really was huge!

This place's signature dish is chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), but the Lin sisters love jjimdak so much we didn't even hesitate — soy braised chicken 29,000 won + 2 bowls of rice 2,000 won, ordered!

How spicy and how big is the 29,000-won soy jjimdak?

The spicy (gochu) jjimdak has adjustable heat, while the soy jjimdak is a non-spicy menu item. When I tried it, instead of any heat, there was more of a gentle peppery note, so it was totally fine to eat with the kids!! And the portion — honestly haha — it was so generous that three adults could easily finish it. So from the start I figured I'd pack some for tomorrow too, and I did >_<

Fresh kimchi made every day at the self-serve bar

What really won me over was the kimchi! They said they make fresh geotjeori (unfermented cabbage kimchi) every morning with domestic cabbage. The self-serve bar had spicy kimchi, mild kimchi, and pickled radish. I naturally went for the spicy one…

It was spicier than I expected, and I loved it haha. Putting that spicy kimchi right on top of the mild soy jjimdak made such a great combo. Jjimdak itself is sweet and salty, so the spicy kimchi cuts through it nicely in between bites!

Honestly the kimchi was so good I think I'll be craving it tomorrow when I eat the leftover jjimdak for brunch. I almost wanted to buy some kimchi separately to take home haha.

Soy jjimdak: the dish that got both kids eating rice

The kids mixed a bit of the jjimdak sauce with the chicken and rice, stirred it all together, and totally cleared a whole meal. They'd even had bread on the way here, but still finished a whole bowl of rice ^^ The Lin sisters really do love their jjimdak~~~~ Next time I'm definitely coming back for the chicken kalguksu.... everyone else was eating noodle soup,,,,

Honestly it looked so good ㅠㅠ

Next visit: the 24-hour-aged, house-made noodle chicken kalguksu

This time I was so won over by the jjimdak that I didn't get to try the chicken kalguksu, but next time I'm definitely trying the 24-hour-aged, house-made noodle kalguksu. This place actually has a wide range of menu items — chicken kalguksu, chicken gomtang (bone broth soup), their namesake Eonyang dak kalguksu, plus jjimdak and boiled pork (suyuk).

Personally, this is my number one jjimdak of the year so far haha. And the kimchi was really my style too ❤️ If you're looking for an easy, family-friendly meal with kids, I'd recommend this as an Incheon spot to try! Next time I'll come for lunch and try the rich chicken broth with chewy house-made noodles, and report back haha.
