Hwang Gop Magongnaru Branch is a gopchang (grilled beef intestine) restaurant near Exit 2 of Magongnaru Station in Gangseo, Seoul, where staff grill a pre-seared mixed platter together with aged kimchi. The writer and spouse ordered the Hwang Gop mixed platter for 2 with the complimentary yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and soup, broke their no-drinking pledge to order beer, and named the aged kimchi soaked in gopchang fat the pick of the night. Verdict: Hwang Gop's gopchang is in great condition with almost no gamey smell, and the couple would gladly go back.

Verdict: Bard Magok is a Magok bar that gets both the food and the atmosphere right, and the writer would 100% go back.

Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch is a 24-hour gamjatang (pork bone stew) and braised bone restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building right by Exit 4 of Itaewon Station in Yongsan, Seoul. For dinner, two of us ordered one flame-grilled bones and one bone hangover soup. The bones had a sweet-spicy glaze with a real smoky char, and the soup broth was rich with a sharp, spicy bite. Verdict: if you want smoky braised bones, the flame-grilled bones are the dish to order at Nuri Maeul Gamjatang Itaewon Branch.
