Why I picked Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel for summer stamina food
Eel is what I think of for summer stamina food, so I headed to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel (장수촌풍천장어) in Yangjae. It has a reputation as a go-to eel place in Gangnam, so I went with high hopes.
Isn't the weather just way too hot these days? ㅠㅠ I get drained after walking just a little, so this time I decided to really recharge. Eel always feels like it gives you energy, right?

Where is Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel? Bangbang intersection, between Yangjae and Gangnam stations
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is near the Bangbang intersection in Gangnam. It sits roughly halfway between Gangnam Station and Yangjae Station, so it was easy to reach from either side.
There are lots of offices around, so it's great for after work and a perfect spot for a Yangjae Station dinner meetup! I went around quitting time too, and there were so many office workers nearby.

Is it good for a Yangjae Station company dinner?
Inside, there are lots of seats and group tables, so I could see why people come here for company dinners. When I visited, quite a few tables were office gatherings haha
It felt easy to eat comfortably even amid the lively noise! If you're stuck deciding on a Yangjae Station dinner, I think it works for a company dinner too haha

Side dishes and free eel juice
I had booked ahead, so the side dishes were already neatly set out when I arrived, and they even gave us eel juice (장어즙) as a freebie. Ready to eat the moment we sat down, lol. It put me in a good mood right away.
I came to recharge, and it felt like I was getting healthier from the very start haha There was a good variety of sides to go with the eel, and you can refill whatever runs out yourself.

Salt-grilled eel, cooked for you by staff
At Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, the staff grilled the eel for us from start to finish, so we could just relax and eat. The sleek eel arrives!! It was way bigger than I expected, right? lol The look alone got me hyped!

You know eel is hard to grill, right? Do it wrong and it burns or turns dry, so leaving it to the experts was a relief haha
They gently sprinkle black raspberry salt (복분자 소금) over the eel, and that was the highlight!! It adds a subtle savory depth that brings out the eel's flavor even more 🤤

How does the grilled eel taste?
The salt-grilled eel was crisp outside and moist inside. The fat comes up just right and spreads softly in your mouth, and I instantly understood why everyone comes here for eel.
Watching the eel turn golden brown made my mouth water lol The savory aroma as it grills was especially wonderful. You know when something already smells delicious?

How to enjoy Pungcheon eel: dipping sauce, wraps, ginger and special sauce
Pungcheon eel (풍천장어, river-and-sea eel) is great dipped in the prepared sauce, wrapped in fresh vegetables, or topped with ginger! Personally, I loved it with the special sauce.
The eel's richness and the sauce's sweetness go so well together that I kept reaching for more haha

Finishing with eel and loach soup, grilled rice cake and mustard leaf kimchi
After finishing a whole eel, I added jangchutang (장추탕, eel and loach soup) and ended with the grilled garaetteok (가래떡, long rice cake) they cooked for us. I'm glad I got the soup, because it washed away the eel's richness.
The gat kimchi (갓김치, mustard leaf kimchi) served alongside was so good too! Crunchy, totally my thing haha

Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel as a summer stamina dinner: the verdict
Eel is what comes to mind when you're wiped out in the summer heat. Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel had satisfying food and great service, so I left happy. I especially liked that the staff grilled it for us so we could eat comfortably!

On a day you want a hearty stamina meal, a day you need a Yangjae Station company dinner spot, or a day you can't decide on dinner in Gangnam, I think you'll be happy with Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel :) I really recharged my energy for this summer!!
