Hi everyone 😆 I finally had a solo lunch during my company lunch break today, and after trying a bunch of places around here, Halls Gimbap is honestly the best for eating alone haha

What sets it apart from other gimbap shops is that you can get gimbap and dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) together 🌟 This used to be Auto Gimbap — they just changed the name. Same staff, same food haha.
Bar-table seats for eating alone at Halls Gimbap
Halls Gimbap Main Branch has wall-facing bar seats for solo diners, which is great because you don't have to feel awkward eating alone. During lunch hour when it's packed, sitting alone at a table can feel kind of sorry, you know? A bar-table setup like this is the best for solo dining!
Of course there are also 4-person tables! Ordering is done via kiosk.

Dakgangjeong sets run 11,000 to 12,000 won! I ordered the spam dakgangjeong set. In my book, gimbap needs ham to be legit 🤪 Spam dakgangjeong set, 11,000 won.
There are set combos in various pairings, so even eating solo you can try a bunch of flavors — love that.
They also have tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), which goes perfectly with gimbap. The nurungji (scorched rice) tteokbokki looks tasty too...!
Zero-sugar cola is 2,000 won. Comes in the chunky can, of course haha.
Self-serve corner: bonito broth and hot water for cup noodles
Water is self-serve. There's also bonito broth.
There's hot water for cup noodles, and they actually sell cup noodles here! Gimbap plus cup noodle combo... the owner really knows what's up 👍 Especially eating alone, finishing a full pot of ramen with your gimbap can feel like too much, so having cup noodles as an option is a nice, lighter way to go.
They stock a wide variety to suit everyone's taste haha. Shin Ramyun, Cup Noodles, Buldak, Ojjam, Chapagetti, Tempura Udon and more... total "didn't know what you'd like so we got it all" energy haha. I already had dakgangjeong, so I held off on the cup noodles today haha.
Spam dakgangjeong set, 11,000 won: how much food is it?
The spam dakgangjeong set I ordered! A satisfying, generous single portion.
The gimbap is huge, but the rice is really just a supporting role — egg, cucumber and spam are the stars!! Low in carbs, so it seems good for people who are dieting too. The dakgangjeong is topped with a sprinkle of cheongyang chili peppers, and popping one in with each bite cuts the richness with a nice kick.
Pairing it with zero-sugar cola definitely counts as dieting, right 😊
Too big to fit in one bite. The egg is soft, the spam is warm... and the cucumber and pickled radish add such a refreshing crunch... This isn't a slapped-together gimbap, it feels like the kind carefully rolled for someone you really care about, haha. There must be about 10 pieces, so honestly the gimbap alone could be a full meal.
Why the dakgangjeong at Halls Gimbap deserves the order
I ordered the set because the dakgangjeong here is so good haha... Don't sleep on the chicken just because it's a gimbap shop. Some people even say the dakgangjeong is better than the gimbap haha. Crispy outside, moist and tender boneless chicken packed inside, and the seasoning has a nicely spicy kick — honestly better than a lot of dedicated dakgangjeong places haha. Checked the origin and it's domestic chicken thigh — of course 👍 If it's your first time here, definitely go for the dakgangjeong set!
Picked out the cheongyang chili and cleaned my plate! haha. Food came out fast too, so it was a great spot for a quick solo lunch. Confidently recommend it to anyone who loves gimbap!
