Daeyeon-dong pork galbi with ₩2,900 ice draft beer, Busan: Gim Geumja
In short
Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch is a Korean pork galbi (marinated short ribs) restaurant on Suyeong-ro in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. After a holiday motorcycle tour left a couple with no energy to cook, they arrived late for the Geumja set's marinated galbi with cheongyang cream udon, ₩2,900 ice draft beer and a ₩1,000 bone soup on the first order. The pork galbi was well textured, but the banchan and sides — dongchimi radish water kimchi and pickled onions — made the spur-of-the-moment dinner worth it.

A pork galbi date in Daeyeon-dong, at Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch
Why a holiday-night dinner at Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi in Daeyeon-dong?

This holiday, I went on a motorcycle tour to another region. The problem was, I was so worn out that I had no energy left to cook once I got home!
So I asked my husband Camembert for understanding and we decided to eat out. We headed to Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch, a well-known pork galbi spot in Daeyeon-dong that stays open late and is popular for group dinners. It's a restaurant specializing in domestic pork galbi, and it's a favorite among Daeyeon-dong locals.

The interior was clean and nice. As soon as we walked in, a friendly staff member showed us to our seat and quickly set out the banchan (side dishes).

The Geumja set marinated galbi: how much meat for two?
If you're not sure what to order, going with Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch's curated set menu isn't a bad idea. We also had trouble choosing, so we went with the marinated galbi from the Geumja set. My hands somehow look like an AI-generated photo here, but I promise I took this myself.
It was so good that I wanted to try the spicy galbi next time.

The set for two was exactly the right amount. Honestly, once you factor in the various sides you end up ordering too, the total spread is quite generous.
Another thing I want to recommend is the clean, tasty banchan. The dongchimi (radish water kimchi) in the photo is a simple radish-only version, but somehow it was so refreshing and delicious. The pickled onions and shredded scallions were also clean-tasting and paired really well with the marinated pork galbi, creating great synergy. So good.

Cheongyang cream udon and morning rolls that come with the set
The set comes with a cheongyang cream udon dish, and it's unique and worth recommending too. It's not spicy in an intense way — even someone with a low spice tolerance would find it pleasantly spicy — so anyone can enjoy it without worry.
After finishing the cream udon, dipping the morning rolls into the leftover cream or eating them with strawberry jam works like a dessert. Highly recommend.

We also grilled these on the pan at the very end, after finishing the meat. This kind of small thoughtful touch really got to me.

₩2,900 ice draft beer and ₩1,000 bone soup
It's rare to find draft beer at a Korean BBQ place, but here they sell it for a very cheap ₩2,900, so I couldn't not order it. And it's an ice draft beer, so cold — it paired incredibly well with the meat. I'm not really into bottled beer personally, so I don't usually drink it.
Ice draft beer is a must. 🍺

Another side I want to recommend is this bone soup. On your first order, it's only a thousand won. Wait, did they forget a zero? Nope, it's really ₩1,000. For real.
Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi offers this bone soup as an inexpensive service-style side dish. It's packed with the kind of hearty back-bone meat you'd find in gamjatang (pork bone stew). The broth tasted a bit like galbitang (short rib soup), and it was so, so good. Order a bowl of rice with it and it's warm and comforting — really hits the spot.

How to eat the pork galbi: cream udon wraps and pickled onions
Wrapping the pork galbi in the cream udon from earlier turned out to be a pretty great combination.

My favorite is still the classic: pork galbi in a lettuce wrap! Pork galbi goes with anything, but stuffing your favorite banchan into a wrap and taking a big bite will always be delicious.
Maybe because the pork galbi quality was good, it was tasty no matter how I ate it. 🤤

I normally never eat raw onion, but with good-quality pork galbi, I kept reaching for the pickled onions nonstop. The savory, juicy texture of the meat paired so well with the crunchy onion. A perfect combination.

Ending the meal with grilled jjondeugi (crispy wheat snack)
We were already full, but grilling jjondeugi (chewy grilled snack) at the end was irresistible. We ate until the very last bite and went home feeling satisfied. It was an impulsive dinner because we were too tired to cook after our trip, but both Camembert and I were happy with it.
The pork galbi was delicious, but it was the generous, satisfying sides that made me want to recommend this place. If you live near Daeyeon-dong, give it a try sometime. 🤗
