Wangsimni Korean pub: 18,000 won dakbokkeumtang for three, egg toast
In short
Hanyang Saram Moeuneungot is a newly opened gopdoritang (chicken and tripe stew) and dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken) pub near Wangsimni Station in Seongdong, Seoul. The writer planned to order a medium dakbokkeumtang (29,000 won) but switched to the small (18,000 won) on staff advice, added shrimp minari jeon and sweet egg toast, and the small was generous enough for three people. For two diners at Hanyang Saram Moeuneungot, order the small dakbokkeumtang and add sides.

What is Hanyang Saram Moeuneungot in Wangsimni like?
Hanyang Saram Moeuneungot (한양 사람 모이는 곳) is a newly opened gopdoritang and dakbokkeumtang pub near Wangsimni Station. I went because it was new and I was curious, and it turned out they're running a free bottle of alcohol event, any time of day, through May and June?!

These days even one bottle of soju at a pub costs ₩5,000–6,000..!! A free bottle with no time limit? If you like a drink, you have to go, right? haha

On top of that, besides gopdoritang (spicy chicken stew with beef intestines), you can order dakbokkeumtang on its own, so people who find the intestines a bit much can still enjoy it. There are plenty of other dishes too, the food is good and the portions are big. If you've been looking for a Wangsimni Station pub or a good Wangsimni gopdoritang place, now is the perfect time to visit!

The short version: if you go to Hanyang Saram Moeuneungot in Wangsimni, just order the dakbokkeumtang or the gopdoritang, no matter what! haha

The portions are generous and the broth is so good that the drinks just keep going down. The owner is really kind too! And since it just opened, the place is nice and clean~!

Is it cheaper to order à la carte or as a set?
The gopdoritang, dakdoritang and spicy soupy chicken feet can all be ordered à la carte, but ordering them as a set with jeon (savory pancake) and alcohol came out about ₩2,000–3,000 cheaper!

Every main is generous and tasty, so it looks better for groups of 2–4 ordering a few things to share than for drinking solo. I think a group would be quite happy here!

How big is the ₩18,000 small dakbokkeumtang?
The small dakbokkeumtang (₩18,000) at Hanyang Saram Moeuneungot is enough for two and felt like a table for three. We didn't know and ordered the medium (₩29,000), and the staff told us even the small is a lot, which surprised me! Honestly I was thinking... "how big can a small really be?!" haha
Still, I figured maybe they were worried we'd leave food since we were also ordering shrimp minari jeon and sweet egg toast, so I switched to the small as they said~

Can you see the size of this dakbokkeumtang?! hahaha What?! Is this really the size you get for ₩18,000...? A huge pot packed with chicken! Bean sprouts! Even plenty of rice cakes, so it was overwhelming from the first look haha
I'd imagined a small as a light meal for two, but when it arrived it was a spread for three haha. Especially if you're also adding udon noodles as a side?! Then you definitely have to order the small haha

I first thought, "Come on, it can't be that much," but once it arrived I immediately understood why the owner recommended the small instead of the medium..!! We'd probably have left food with the medium, so switching was a stroke of genius! haha

The taste was so good that my heart wanted to order the large too... but for two people the small is plenty, so couples, take note. The dakdoritang is great, but the shrimp minari jeon and egg toast are all good too, so if you want to try a variety, you really should go with the small! haha

Are the free starters refillable?
Yes, the complimentary starters are refillable too! Tofu, kimchi and tangy pickled onion come out before you even start drinking, so there was no boredom while waiting for the main. That's even more reason to order the small of either the gopdoritang or dakbokkeumtang and add sides~:)

How was the shrimp minari jeon?
Next up, the shrimp minari jeon! Honestly, we came for the dakbokkeumtang, so I didn't expect much from the jeon haha. But it was better than I thought~!
First, it's packed with minari (water dropwort), so the aroma was great, and the shrimp you bite into here and there were plump and tasty~ It's crisp outside and not too heavy, so it's perfect as a second-round drink snack~ (That's why ordering it as a set is perfect! haha)

Is the sweet egg toast worth ordering at a pub?
The sweet egg toast at Hanyang Saram Moeuneungot was a surprisingly addictive palate cleanser between bites of the salty dakbokkeumtang. The last thing we ordered! At first I thought, "Egg toast... at a pub?" With this much food already, and the dakbokkeumtang and shrimp minari jeon both so good, why egg toast..? I thought, but
it's a really sweet-style toast, soft egg with a sweet sauce, and it's weirdly addictive! Eating a bite in between salty dishes like the dakbokkeumtang or shrimp minari jeon made it a perfect palate cleanser, so

Personally, if you come in a group of 3–4, I'd recommend the sweet, soft, fluffy egg toast as a side too!

Of course, it couldn't beat the insanely good dakdoritang with udon noodles added.... Even so, it's a Wangsimni Station pub good enough for round one and round two, so I highly recommend Hanyang Saram Moeuneungot!
Hanyang Saram Moeuneungot: overall verdict
- Taste: The dakbokkeumtang broth is a real must-try! Even better simmered for a while, and the shrimp minari jeon and sweet egg toast were all good too
- Portions: Even the small is generous enough for two. Adding udon noodles makes it even more filling
- Price: Good value for the amount, and great for ordering a bit of everything to share
- Service: Honest menu recommendations and a kind owner
- Overall: ★★★★☆~
The dakdoritang is big and the broth is delicious, so it's a great place for a drink, and I recommend it! The free bottle of alcohol runs only until June, so go soon! haha
