Korean restaurant in Gwacheon for seaweed soup sets: Haenon Miyeok

I visited Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch (해논미역 과천직영점) in Munwon-dong for lunch with my family in Gwacheon. It is a restaurant specializing in miyeokguk (seaweed soup) set meals, which we chose because we wanted a warm, satisfying meal with rice.

What are the reservation, parking, and dining times?

Reservations are available for parties of two or more, through Naver Reservation or by phone. Everyone aged 8 and over is required to order one menu item.

According to the original notice, the weekday break time is 15:00–17:00, while weekends and public holidays have no break time. Last orders were listed as 14:30 for lunch and 19:45 for dinner.

The restaurant is on the first floor at 67 Araetbaeraengi-ro in Munwon-dong, Gwacheon-si. Parking in front of the restaurant was convenient, though it can get busy; if the lot is full, you need to move your car as directed by staff.

What was the interior like for a family meal?

Once inside, the space felt more spacious and cleaner than I expected. The overall atmosphere was tidy, so I thought it would work well for a family meal or a meal with parents.

The meal is served with individual earthenware pots of seaweed soup and side dishes. We could get more of any side dishes we needed from the self-service bar.

After a short wait, the seaweed soup and several side dishes arrived as a full table spread. I had gone expecting seaweed soup, but the spread was more generous than I expected. The side dishes were neatly prepared, and because nothing was overly seasoned, it was easy to enjoy with warm rice.

My scallop seaweed soup came hot in an earthenware pot. The seaweed was softly cooked, and the broth was mild with a deep flavor. The scallops added savory seafood flavor, and I finished the bowl with the side dishes.

Was the boneless flounder seaweed soup easy to eat?

My husband ordered the boneless flounder seaweed soup set. Since the flounder came boneless, he could eat it with the seaweed without having to pick out bones. The fish was mild and tender, and its savory flavor went well with the broth.

For anyone who finds picking fish bones tedious, I thought the boneless flounder set would be a convenient choice.

This lunch stayed with me as a Korean set meal of warm seaweed soup with neatly prepared side dishes. On a day when I want a filling meal of mild broth and rice, it is one I would think of again with my family.
