Yeonnam-dong café for after-dinner brewing coffee: Central Site
In short
Central Site Yeonnam is a roastery café in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul, that roasts its own beans and serves them as brewing (hand-drip) coffee. A couple came late in the evening as a second stop after a dim sum dinner, ordering two brewing coffees at 12,000 won each and a classic tiramisu at 8,500 won, and drank them slowly at an upstairs table with a card explaining the beans. Even on a first visit to a drip coffee specialty shop, saying what you like and taking the staff's recommendation is enough to enjoy Central Site Yeonnam.

What kind of café is Central Site Yeonnam in Yeonnam-dong?
Central Site Yeonnam is a roastery café located at 29-1 Yeonhui-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, where you can enjoy a variety of specialty coffees brewed from beans roasted in-house. Yeonnam-dong already has plenty of cafés, but this time I wasn't just looking for a nice atmosphere — I wanted a café where I could properly enjoy the coffee itself, so I headed to Central Site Yeonnam.

Central Site Yeonnam is known for updating its single origin lineup every week, so if you love coffee, there's real fun in picking out beans to try.

Several kinds of roasted coffee beans were on sale.

Yeonnam-dong in particular has a lot of cafés built around emotional, aesthetic interiors, so it felt a bit different that Central Site focuses not just on the space but on roasting and brewing coffee itself.

Ground-floor brewing bar or upstairs seats: which is better?
Central Site Yeonnam has a brewing space on the first floor and comfortable seats upstairs. Personally, if you love coffee, I think it's worth taking a good look at the first-floor brewing space. Watching the beans you ordered turn into a finished cup of coffee is part of the fun of visiting a hand-drip specialty café.

On the other hand, if you'd rather sit and chat at a more relaxed pace, it's nice to head upstairs and grab a seat.

So it seemed like a good fit for many different situations — solo coffee time in Yeonnam-dong, meeting a friend, or a Hongdae date.

A first visit to a drip coffee shop: choosing beans and reading the bean card
Honestly, this was my first time visiting a brewing (drip coffee) specialty shop like this. Watching the whole process — roasting, grinding, smelling the aroma, then pouring the coffee — looked so cool.

While brewing, they also explained the beans to us.
Downing a regular americano quickly is nice too, but hand-drip coffee has its own fun in slowly tasting each bean's unique aroma, acidity, and sweetness, right? At Central Site you can pick your own beans, and on this recent visit they gave us the coffee along with a description card for the bean we chose.

If you're not sure which bean to pick, it's a good idea to just mention the style you usually like and ask for a recommendation. Your options will differ depending on whether you prefer something bright and fruity, or something nutty and heavy.

Late evening after dim sum, settling in on the second floor
Once the whole performance was over, we headed up to the second floor of Central Site Yeonnam and found a seat.

My wife and I had eaten at a dim sum restaurant and stopped by late in the evening. The view of Seoul blended with the drip coffee and became like a single painting.

A drink as a second round is great too, but sometimes it's just as nice to come to a café like this and chat about little things over delicious, fragrant drip coffee. I really enjoyed it.

Each coffee came with a paper describing the beans. If you love coffee, it could be fun for two people to visit, each pick a different bean, and share a little of each.

Classic tiramisu paired with drip coffee at Central Site Yeonnam
Classic tiramisu! How could it not go well with an acidic, nutty drip coffee? It was excellent.
We spent a relaxing time with two cups of hand-drip brewing coffee chosen from a variety of beans, along with a soft classic tiramisu. What I liked most was that it wasn't just a café where you drink a cup of coffee and leave — you actually get to choose your beans and enjoy comparing their aroma and flavor. Adding the tiramisu made for a great coffee-and-dessert combo too.
