Clear pork soup restaurant in Suwon with minari sets: Manin Gukbap
In short
Manin Gukbap Seongdae (만인국밥 성대점) is a clear-broth, toryeom-style pork gukbap (pork and rice soup) restaurant near Sungkyunkwan University in Jangan-gu, Suwon. On this visit, the Manin pork gomtang set and the minari gomtang set (13,000 won each) had a broth that was refreshing rather than greasy, and the minari (Korean water parsley) side dish served with the suyuk (boiled pork) was an especially good match. With gukbap at 8,000 won and free extra rice, Manin Gukbap Seongdae is worth recommending for good-value clear pork soup near Sungkyunkwan University.

Today I headed to Sungkyunkwan University (Seongdae) for what might be the first time in my life? And I spotted a gukbap (rice soup) place that looked delicious. Sometimes I crave a clear broth instead of a milky white one, and Manin Gukbap Seongdae (만인국밥 성대점) happened to be right there, so I stopped in 👍

If you come by car, there is a public parking lot just below Manin Gukbap Seongdae. Parking is cheap too, so don't wear yourself out hunting for a spot elsewhere. Just park here, I recommend it!!
Manin Gukbap menu and prices
The mains at Manin Gukbap are pork gukbap and minari (water dropwort) pork gukbap.

You order at a kiosk and pay right away. When your ticket comes out, hand it to the owner.

The side order of suyuk (boiled pork slices) is about ₩6,000, and both gukbap are the same ₩8,000 (wow!). Isn't that cheap? They use domestic pork too, so ₩8,000 is a real bargain. We ordered the Manin pork gomtang (pork bone soup) set and the minari gomtang set, ₩13,000 each.

This is the owner's slogan. Every single dish really has its own philosophy and conviction behind it. I'll get to the taste review in a moment, but this is a place I truly want to recommend.

There is a huge amount of meat out front. Lately the ingredients keep running out quickly, so they close early. I recommend arriving right at opening to eat here! There is also a country-of-origin sign.
What is the inside of Manin Gukbap Seongdae like?
The dining hall at Manin Gukbap Seongdae reminds me of a Japanese ramen shop, with straight bar-style tables.

This is the inside of the hall. It seems to be styled like a Japanese ramen shop, with tables in a straight line.

There are hangers too, so you can hang up your coat easily!! Winter is coming soon, so that looks handy.

The kitchen is open, so you can see exactly how the food is made. They keep it hygienic, so you can eat with confidence.

Pure ground pepper and salt, those two really matter.
The meat is sliced by hand on a meat slicer and sent out right away, so it takes a little time. Still, seeing all that made the food look even tastier.
How does the Manin pork gomtang set taste?
The Manin pork gukbap set (₩13,000) comes with clear toryeom-style (rice rinsed repeatedly with hot broth) pork gomtang, side suyuk and banchan (side dishes). The broth is not greasy but refreshing, perfect as a hangover soup too.

This is the Manin pork gukbap set. It comes with the gukbap and a side of suyuk. Unusually, there is shiitake mushroom on top of the suyuk. The banchan are chosen to suit the gukbap.

This is the basic pork gomtang, a clear toryeom-style gukbap. Honestly, by my standards it is the kind of soup I'd look for when I want a clean hangover meal after drinking. It is not greasy, and "refreshing" is the word that pops out right away. The amount of meat is average, but with the set it came out generous.

Shiitake on top of the meat, plus the minari that came with it. I didn't expect much from that minari, but it was such a great side. Be sure to wrap it with the meat. It is seriously, hugely delicious haha

Three banchan, and they go so well with gukbap.

Is the Manin minari gomtang set worth ordering?
The Manin minari gomtang set (₩13,000) is gomtang loaded with finely chopped minari. I thought minari would feel odd in gukbap, but it was fresh and matched the broth well. On a return visit I would order the minari gomtang.

This is the Manin minari gomtang. Its feature is the plentiful, finely chopped minari. Minari in gukbap? I assumed it would be meh, but it was fresh and went well with the broth. If I come back, I think I'll have the minari pork gomtang. The portion was big too.
Eating it toryeom-style, it really goes well with the broth!!

Piling meat on rice like this is pure bliss. The meat is so tender, and the seasoning on that side dish is just right.

My dining companion next to me also said that minari side was super tasty. The faint aroma of oil spreading out and the freshness were so good. I want to eat it again.
Is extra rice free at Manin Gukbap?
Manin Gukbap Seongdae charges nothing for an extra bowl of rice. However, once the rice sells out, they can't give you more.

At a good gukbap place I always have the habit of ordering another bowl of rice. There is no extra charge, but once rice sells out they can't give any more. Still, I'm moved that rice costs nothing extra.

The meat and minari go so well together. Thanks for the meal.
Verdict: clear pork soup near Sungkyunkwan University
I visited the newly opened Manin Gukbap near Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon! The clear, clean broth is so appealing and the meat was tender, so I enjoyed it a lot. The combination of suyuk and minari muchim (seasoned minari) was the best, and every banchan was tasty too, which made it even more satisfying! From the gukbap to the suyuk the quality is good across the board, and I found myself wondering why it took so long for a place like this to open. If you're looking for a great new restaurant, I strongly recommend Manin Gukbap!!
