Parking and extra kkwari peppers at Dangsan Station BBQ: Chodaechang

In short

Chodaechang Dangsan Station is a grilled beef offal (yang-daechang) restaurant on the second floor of the building right outside Exit 11 of Dangsan Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. The Assorted Grill Set B costs 57,000 won and was paired with doenjang sul-bap (soybean paste rice soup) at 7,000 won, and the kkwari peppers grilled alongside the meat were good enough to order a second round. The owner grills every cut over charcoal — daechang, teuk-yang and makchang — so Chodaechang is an easy, hands-off spot for drinks and grilled offal.

Three years in the Blue Ribbon Survey: 11 years of gopchang know-how

Blue Ribbon Survey listing notice

Turns out this place has been listed in the Blue Ribbon Survey for three consecutive years since 2024. Plus, it's a beef intestine specialty restaurant made by a craftsman who's studied gopchang (grilled offal) for 11 years, so my expectations were sky-high before I even walked in!

Staircase leading up to the 2nd floor

Going up to the 2nd floor, you're greeted by a clean, pleasant restaurant, and the friendly owner showed me in. I went almost right at opening, and there were already people eating, with office workers from nearby constantly streaming in!

Seating inside the main hall of Chodaechang Dangsan Station

If you visit Chodaechang Dangsan Station after booking through Naver Reservation, there are time slots with time-sale discounts and you can also get one extra corkage bottle free, so I'd recommend booking ahead haha.

Cleanly kept restaurant table

At gopchang restaurants, the floor or tables are often greasy and sticky from the fat, but this place was so well-kept it felt really pleasant.

Menu and ordering: what is the difference between Assorted Grill Set A and B?

Tablet ordering screen at the table

Every table had a tablet, so ordering was easy. There were so many menu options I had trouble deciding, so I ordered the assorted set to get a good taste of the signature dishes. True to a gopchang and daechang restaurant, there were all kinds of grilled items as well as daechang hot pot, plus sides like noodles, stew, and yang (beef stomach) fried rice.

Menu board for assorted grill sets and sides

I added doenjang sul-bap, a great side dish, and a drink to my Assorted Grill Set B. The difference between Set A and Set B is whether it includes yeomtong (beef heart) — just pick based on your taste!

Shortly after ordering, the basic side dishes were set out. There was salad, seasoned lettuce, and pickled garlic scapes — whenever things got a bit rich, the pickles were the perfect pairing.

Hot charcoal placed on the table

The charcoal was seriously hot haha. Like a furnace... but grilling over such high heat is exactly what made it taste so good!

Assorted Grill Set B for 57,000 won, plus an extra order of kkwari peppers

Assorted Grill Set B, ₩57,000. Here comes today's radiant star. Out came plump daechang, teuk-yang, and makchang, all well coated in seasoning. At Chodaechang, the staff grills everything for you, so all you have to do is enjoy it. The owner looked incredibly busy with the crowd of customers, but... it was so convenient for us!

Plump daechang cooking on the grill

The daechang was so plump. Watching it turn golden brown on the grill while catching that faint charcoal smoky scent really got my appetite going. Suddenly starving. They grilled kkwari peppers and garlic alongside it too, and the peppers were so good I ended up ordering more later.

Crisp daechang with chewy teuk-yang and makchang

I dipped the first daechang to finish grilling lightly in the special sauce and took a bite. The savory juices that burst the moment it hit my mouth, along with the soft texture, were truly excellent. The seasoning was just right, so I couldn't stop eating!

Chewy grilled teuk-yang and makchang

Next, the teuk-yang had this crunchy yet chewy texture that was really charming, and the makchang got more savory with every bite too — I thought there was nothing better as a drinking snack. I instantly understood why so many people name this a top Dangsan Station restaurant. You know a place frequented by local office workers is always the real deal, right?

A bowl of hearty doenjang sul-bap

Finishing with doenjang sul-bap for 7,000 won

Doenjang sul-bap, ₩7,000. Midway through grilling, I started craving something a little spicy yet savory, so I added the doenjang sul-bap. It came as rice mixed into a hot, rich broth, which filled me up while also cleansing my palate haha. The portion was so generous, this alone could've been a full meal.

Verdict: is Chodaechang Dangsan Station good for a group dinner?

Notice board featuring the Meogeoboswo TV segment

On my way out, I noticed it had also been featured on the TV show Meogeoboswo as a top restaurant. A must-visit if you're having a company dinner nearby, Chodaechang Dangsan Station let me enjoy high-quality grilled beef intestines at a reasonable price — a very satisfying find haha. So good... Next time I visit, I want to try the gopchang grill I missed out on today!

The combo of charcoal-grilled, smoky daechang with chewy teuk-yang and makchang was a perfect match for drinks. If you're looking to properly enjoy gopchang or daechang near Dangsan Station, or searching for a good Dangsan Station bar for a group gathering, I highly recommend visiting Chodaechang Dangsan Station, a spot even the Blue Ribbon Survey has recognized!
