Atmosphere and busy hours at Appa Jjim Hanam

We came a little after lunchtime, and it was still full when we walked in; the crowd thinned out after 3 PM. The restaurant is spacious, so it's good for groups, and there are room-style seats too, which would suit a family gathering.

The menu at Appa Jjim Hanam covers everything from jjim (steamed, braised dishes) to tang (soups) and lunch specials. At lunch, a braised pollock and pot rice set is only ₩16,000, can you believe it?👀

Appa Jjim says it developed the world's first maifan stone (maekbanseok) monkfish jjim. I have no idea what that means, but I'm easily wowed by a "world's first" 🙂 Still, taste is what matters most, right? Let me honestly review whether this is a real Starfield Hanam-area favorite!

What side dishes come at Appa Jjim?

The basic side dishes at Appa Jjim Hanam include seasoned siraegi, cold cucumber soup, seaweed (gim) and more. The seaweed here is seriously so good. Every single side dish is delicious..🫶🏻

Cuttlefish braised pollock: the owner deboned it for us

It was my first time trying the cuttlefish braised pollock at Appa Jjim Hanam, and the cuttlefish comes in whole?🥺 The owner put on a bone-removal show right in front of us.

He removed all the bones, so it was so easy to eat. He cut the cuttlefish into bite-size pieces too, haha

Here's the braised pollock with cuttlefish, all prepped. The portion is seriously huge. Plenty of braised pollock places give you hardly any meat if you're unlucky, but here it's all meat.

We ordered the pot rice for three, and it came generously in a single pot.

How do the cuttlefish and pollock actually taste?

If you like cuttlefish, definitely get the cuttlefish braised pollock at Appa Jjim. The cuttlefish is perfectly plump 🦑 and so good that I'd order this again on a return visit.

The cuttlefish legs are tiny and cute compared to the body. Put them on rice with the sauce and it's almost like stir-fried squid,,💓

See the size of the pollock meat? The pieces are big, so every bite fills your mouth.

Wrapping the pollock in seaweed is especially amazing,,🥺 I went with family, and my sister raved about how good the seaweed wraps were.

Siraegi is an add-on

The cuttlefish braised pollock doesn't come with siraegi! You have to add it for ₩5,000. The aroma of the siraegi was so good, and I personally liked its slightly chewy texture 👀

Finishing with sungnyung from the pot rice

If you enjoyed the pot rice, you have to finish with sungnyung (scorched rice tea), right?!

Sungnyung with braised pollock is a pretty clean combo too. I'm so happy I finally found a great braised pollock place after so long T_T

A Hanam pollock spot that won over my sister, who didn't like pollock

My sister never used to like braised pollock, but after going to Appa Jjim Hanam, she says that if anyone asks, she likes it now, lol. It's officially a Starfield Hanam-area favorite for me🙂 If you're looking for braised pollock in Hanam, give Appa Jjim a try. The sauce is delicious and the portion is generous, so we left full.
