Medieval pub in Jongno with IPA and honey gorgonzola pizza: Sudowonui
In short
Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo (수도원의 비밀 저장고) is a medieval monastery-themed craft beer pub on the basement floor of an alley building in Gwancheol-dong, Jongno, Seoul, between Jonggak and Jongno 3-ga stations. Amid candlelight, brick walls and Lord of the Rings-style music, we had ale and IPA craft beers (7,900 won each) and the Deep Night Gorgonzola Pizza (25,900 won), dipped in honey. The atmosphere, the beer and the honey gorgonzola pizza all delivered, making Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo a great pick for an after-work drink or a date night.

A craft beer pub on the night streets of Gwancheol-dong, Jongno
Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo is a craft beer spot tucked into an alley in Gwancheol-dong, Jongno. I went out into the dazzling lights and lively crowds of Gwancheol-dong's nightlife strip — this is the neighborhood everyone name-drops when you want a light beer after work, a special date night with someone, or that autumn-bar-vibes place everyone's been talking about lately.

Among all of it, Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo stands out as a place that serves genuinely good craft beer. Doesn't the name alone make you want to check it out? It feels like stepping into a themed escape room. The beer itself is clean and well made, and the whole atmosphere feels like an adventure straight out of Lord of the Rings — like you've stumbled onto a secret medieval monastery. Let me show you around.
Location and hours of Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo
Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo is located at 47-1 Samil-daero 17-gil, B1, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and it's open daily from 17:00 to 24:00. Reservations can be made by phone.

Just head down the stairs to the basement level of the building!

What's the atmosphere like at Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo?
The biggest draw here is definitely the space itself — a concept and story-driven design that's genuinely one of a kind. Antique medieval vibes all around! Candles softly lighting the room, dark brick walls, heavy wooden tables, and antique props scattered here and there all come together to create a cozy, mysterious feel. I was seriously too busy taking photos.

Even if you're just having one beer, isn't it so much better in a themed space like this where fun conversations naturally happen? The music feels grand and mysterious too, like the Lord of the Rings soundtrack.

Between the murmur of the crowd and the soft lighting, I honestly felt like I'd joined the Fellowship of the Ring myself. Hahaha. There's a certain romance to sitting down together and raising a glass after a long, tiring day.

True to the monastery concept, Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo clearly puts real care into its beer too. The craft beers are fresh and cleanly managed — the kind you nod along to the moment you take a sip. There's also fun to be had just reading the monk-themed brand story on the menu and browsing the side dishes and food options while you order.

Ale craft beer (₩7,900), a great first pour
The ale craft beer is ₩7,900, and it's a beer with a fragrant fruity flavor and varied aroma! The finish is clean and smooth all the way through. It's easy and approachable even for beginners to craft beer, and perfect as a first drink when you want something light and refreshing. The aroma is amazing too 😋👍🫶

IPA craft beer (₩7,900), bitter hops and citrus notes
Next up, the IPA craft beer (₩7,900)! It has an intense, bitter hop flavor layered with a pleasant fruity aroma. Thanks to its rich, full body, it's clearly a favorite among beer enthusiasts who love a deep, true-to-form flavor, and you can really taste the citrus notes.

Deep-night gorgonzola pizza (₩25,900), a sweet-and-salty bite dipped in honey
The deep-night gorgonzola pizza is ₩25,900, and dipping it in honey makes for the perfect sweet-and-salty pairing with craft beer. The rich, savory cheese aroma of the freshly baked pizza hits all the senses in the dim lighting 😋👍🫶 Take a salty, distinctively flavored gorgonzola bite, dip it lightly in sweet honey, and the sweetness and saltiness come together perfectly as tonight's beer snack.
