Hongcheon hanok café garden pavilion with green tea cake: Gil151
In short
Gil151 Hanok Cafe, Gangwon Hongcheon Main Branch, is a hanok (traditional Korean house) café tucked inside a village on Gilgol-gil in Nam-myeon, Hongcheon, about 20 minutes by car from Vivaldi Park. The writer visited with a friend around opening time and, from a pavilion seat in the lawn garden, tried the green tea red bean cake, the black sesame cream drink Flower Blooming in Mud, the summer-only Summer Road and a salt bread. Gil151's cake was not too sweet with a pleasant green tea bitterness, and while the salt bread's crumb was ordinary, its bottom was truly crisp.

Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, sits right against the eastern edge of Yangpyeong in Gyeonggi-do! For a summer weekend outing, I visited Gil151 Hanok Cafe, Gangwon Hongcheon Main Branch (길151 한옥카페 강원도 홍천본점) with a friend. It's a hanok café about 20 minutes by car from Vivaldi Park, home of Ocean World, where you can enjoy lush green scenery from a serene traditional house. A Hongcheon café worth knowing!
Getting to Gil151 Hanok Cafe and parking
Gil151 Hanok Cafe, Gangwon Hongcheon Main Branch is reached by following a quiet country road in Hongcheon, right next to Yangpyeong. Public transport looked rather difficult, so I recommend going by car! Dadasi (the writer) got a comfortable ride thanks to a friend :)
Part of the road into the café is narrow, about one car wide, so we had to pull aside when a car came the other way. If you're a novice driver, take it slow and drive safely!
Come down past the hanok gate, built in the raised-roof style (soseul-daemun), and the parking lot is right there. A parking attendant is on hand to guide you. A hanok café in Hongcheon tucked deep inside a quiet village: Gil151.
What are the indoor seats like at Gil151?

Inside, Gil151 has everything from regular tables to floor seating, and above all the lush green view through the big windows made just sitting there feel healing.
Menu and bakery display

Gil151 has coffee, ades and smoothies, plus traditional teas, so it looked like a good place to bring your parents. A great café for a big family outing :) The signature menu names, like 'Flower Blooming in Mud' and 'Around the Time Camellias Bloom', are so poetic that I got even more curious!

There were cake slices, various breads and other bakery items too, but since we came right at opening, the breads were still being put out little by little.

I was also curious about the crisp-looking salt bread (a buttery roll with coarse salt), a little bigger than the usual ones.
Lawn garden pavilion seats: 5 of them, 1 hour 30 minutes
Gil151's biggest charm is the pavilion seating in the lawn garden! Since we'd come all this way, Dadasi and my friend decided to use one. Luckily it was morning and the sky was a bit overcast, so the weather was fine for sitting in a pavilion.
There are 5 pavilions in total, with a maximum stay of 1 hour 30 minutes. You take your shoes off to use them, and we were lucky that a table-type pavilion was free, which made it even more comfortable. Each pavilion has a fan, so it was more pleasant than expected even in summer.
Summer Road plum cream soda and Flower Blooming in Mud

Along with the green tea red bean cake I'd been curious about, my friend ordered the summer signature drink 'Summer Road' (여름길) and I ordered 'Flower Blooming in Mud' (진흙속에피는꽃).

My friend's 'Summer Road' is a summer-only plum cream soda topped with homemade plum syrup and plum gelato. The gelato was cool and tangy like sherbet, and it was full of plum pulp, a refreshing drink that suits summer especially well.

Another signature drink, 'Flower Blooming in Mud', lets you choose between triple berry cream and black sesame cream. Dadasi loves black sesame cream, so of course I went with the black sesame cream latte. And just like the name says, a pretty flower sat on top of the cream. It's edible, so you can eat it too. The sweet black sesame cream blended well with the latte, a nice moderate sugar boost, and I'd definitely recommend it if you like black sesame cream lattes!

How was the green tea red bean cake?
The green tea red bean cake I'd been curious about! It was a bit of a challenge pick for me, but the cream wasn't overly sweet or greasy, and the bitterness of the green tea powder balanced everything nicely. The red bean flavor wasn't overpowering and the green tea was just right, easy to enjoy overall.

The salt bread's bottom is the highlight
And I tried the crisp-looking salt bread too.

When I first saw the cross-section, it was plainer than I expected and a little disappointing, but the bottom was really crisp and I enjoyed it a lot!
To sum up

We arrived after crawling through holiday-season traffic, but with drinks to match our tastes, plus cake and salt bread, we ate heartily while taking in the serene hanok and quiet countryside at Gil151 Hanok Cafe, Gangwon Hongcheon Main Branch. It seems like a great hanok café for a drive between Yangpyeong and Hongcheon, or for a rest after visiting Ocean World at Hongcheon Vivaldi Park!
A Hongcheon café recommendation! If you want a relaxed time surrounded by green nature, the Gangwon Hongcheon hanok café Gil151 is worth a visit :)
