Incheon gopchang restaurant with a monthly deep clean: Yeonsu Gopchang

Yeonsu Gopchang is a gopchang (grilled intestine) and makchang restaurant in the Yeonsu-dong food alley near Yeonsu Station, Incheon, the expanded and relocated former Miro Gopchang Yeonsu branch. On a Saturday evening, the 39,900 won mixed set at Yeonsu Gopchang brought flame-grilled vegetable gopchang stir-fry, salt-grilled makchang, earthenware-pot gopchang hot pot and sesame oil fried rice, plus free kettle fish cake soup and liver and sundae (Korean blood sausage), all in a clean dining room with no sticky tables. Yeonsu Gopchang is a good Yeonsu-dong pick when you want both value and cleanliness.

Siheung BBQ for two: half platter and naengmyeon two ways at Gongdan

Gongdan Gamjatang Samgyeopsal Siheung Main Branch is a 38-year-old Korean BBQ restaurant near City Hall Station in Siheung, Gyeonggi, that serves free gamjatang (pork bone stew) with meat orders. Two people visited at 1 pm on a weekday and shared the 450g Gongdan mixed half platter (43,000 won), Mot-ijeo bul-naengmyeon (fiery cold noodles, 10,000 won) and a 3,000 won bowl of jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork), and the meat quality from the in-house butcher shop and the generous free gamjatang both impressed. Gongdan Gamjatang Samgyeopsal Siheung Main Branch gets price, quality and friendly service right, which gives plenty of reasons to return.

Ansan raw fish spot, salmon platter & crab ramen: Eochongye 1beonji

Eochongye 1beonji (어촌계1번지) is a sashimi restaurant inside the MTV (Multi Techno Valley) industrial complex in Danwon-gu, Ansan, right in front of Bandalseom. On a rainy day the writer ordered a small salmon mixed sashimi platter (₩45,000), the lunch special premium hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl, ₩12,000) and crab seafood ramen (₩12,000). Even the small platter came with generous, thick slices of salmon, mullet and flounder. Eochongye 1beonji is a Bandalseom sashimi restaurant where taste, freshness and price all feel reasonable.

Susan-dong, Incheon spicy octopus restaurant, 10th visit: Boksakkot

Boksakkot Pineun Jip Incheon Branch (복사꽃피는집 인천점) is a restaurant specializing in fire-grilled jjukkumi (baby octopus) and nakji bokkeum (spicy stir-fried octopus) in Susan-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, near Guwol-dong and Guwol Asiad. On a weekday evening, a regular on her tenth or so visit ordered the fire-grilled octopus stir-fry for two (35,800 won) at spice level 2, about 1.5 times as hot as Shin Ramyun, with the set's gorgonzola wood-fired pizza and muk-sabal (chilled acorn jelly soup), plus the self-bar and free after-meal drinks. Verdict: Boksakkot Pineun Jip is the first place she heads whenever she craves spicy octopus.

Duck restaurant in Bucheon with a ₩47,800 course for two: Keunsawi

Withwich is a brunch, pasta and wood-fired pizza restaurant on the ground floor of The Blue City in Guwol-dong, Namdong, Incheon. On a Sunday afternoon the writer ordered Withwich's Italian pasta and wood-fired pizza set for two (from 41,800 won). The writer swapped the house salad for sliced baguette to dip in the gambas oil pasta and was happy with the margherita cheese pizza and the strong Americano, brewed under the café's coffee-naming system that credits the person who made it. If you order the gambas oil pasta at Withwich, swap in the sliced baguette.

Siheung duck BBQ on Beoman-ro: coated-pan jumulleok, Grill Duck
