Snow crab restaurant in Gijang, Busan for parents: pre-cut bakdal crab

Gijang Myeongpum Daegae (기장명품대게) is a snow crab restaurant tucked inside Gijang Market in Gijang-gun, Busan, where you pick a crab from the tank and it is steamed right away and cut up so it is easy to eat. On a Gijang outing with my parents, we chose a bakdal snow crab and also had the self-serve bar, fried rice in the crab shell and doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), and the restaurant's own parking lot with an exit coin made driving there easy. Gijang Myeongpum Daegae suits anyone who wants to treat their parents to a snow crab meal without the hassle of cracking shells.

Gwangalli pizzeria for a family meal with my parents: Extra Mile

Extra Mile is a casual American restaurant newly opened on a backstreet just off Gwangalli Beach in Suyeong, Busan. On a family meal out with both parents, the writer ordered a birria taco and potato half-and-half pizza (26,000 won) plus white ragu and tomato pastas (18,000 won each), and was pleased with the calm atmosphere and easygoing flavors. Extra Mile is a good Gwangalli pick for families with different tastes who want two flavors on one pizza.

Couple's dinner of oxtail gomtang in Dongseong-ro, Daegu: Hanwoojang

Hanwoojang is a 24-hour gukbap (rice-and-soup) restaurant on Gukchaebosang-ro in Jung-gu, Daegu, open since 1968 and now run by the second generation. For dinner as a couple we ordered oxtail gomtang at 17,000 won and special seolleongtang at 13,000 won, tasted the broth plain first, then seasoned it with salt and shared both bowls. The oxtail gomtang had a deep, rich flavour and the special seolleongtang was clean and nutty, and both were filling with rice.
