Sincheon-dong Texas BBQ lunch special: 3 sets and marshmallows, Modak

It had been a while since I'd met up with friends for lunch, so I went looking for somewhere with a nice atmosphere and ended up at Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch (모닥텍사스바베큐 동대구점), a Texas barbecue restaurant in Sincheon-dong.

I always assumed barbecue was an expensive dinner thing, but the lunch special at Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch is honestly great value.

The place is spacious and comfortable, which made it a perfect meetup spot near Dongdaegu Station. Let me tell you all about the good meat, the pasta and the special dessert experience.

Where is Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch, and is there parking?

Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch is across from Shinsegae Department Store and the transit terminal. Walk about 20 meters into the café alley, past the entrance where Gogigupneunnamja (고기굽는남자) is, and you'll see it right away on the left, on the first floor. It's very easy to reach, so it was a convenient place to meet.

It's also only a 4-minute walk from the subway station, so it's very comfortable to reach by public transport.

With June getting hotter, a restaurant near the station where you can arrive without breaking a sweat seems like the best choice for a Sincheon-dong lunch. For those driving, I'm leaving a photo of the parking lot too.

How much is the Modak Texas Barbecue lunch special?

The lunch special at Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch is available only during the daytime: barbecue platters in the mid-to-high ₩10,000s and pasta in the low ₩10,000s. The interior is casual and modern, as if you'd stepped into Texas.

It's also a great spot for handing out wedding invitations or for a business meetup near Dongdaegu Station. Above all, the highlight is the lunch special you can only get during the day.

A high-end barbecue platter cooked with traditional smoking for the mid-to-high ₩10,000s, and solid pasta for the low ₩10,000s. The value is incredible.

It really lowers the barrier to Texas barbecue, which has a reputation as an expensive dinner. The moment I saw the menu, I wanted to order a bit of everything.

How are the brisket, pulled pork and spare rib sets and the shrimp pasta?

To try a variety of meats, our group ordered one each of the lunch special brisket set, pulled pork set and spare rib set.

To go with them, we added a shrimp squid ink pasta and a shrimp aglio e olio.

Lunch special barbecue sets

They say the meat is 100% homemade, trimmed, aged and smoked in-house, and maybe that's why it was so tender and full of smoky charcoal flavor. Meat of this quality usually costs quite a bit more,

so being able to enjoy it this affordably as a Sincheon-dong lunch left me very satisfied. The set comes generously packed with dinner rolls, tortillas, salad, french fries and more,

and building burgers to my own taste was a lot of fun too.

Shrimp squid ink pasta and shrimp aglio e olio

The pasta was every bit as good as a proper restaurant's. The shrimp squid ink pasta in particular, with plump shrimp in a rich, nutty cream sauce, kept pulling my fork back.

The clean, spicy garlic-oil flavor of the aglio e olio also cut right through the greasiness of the barbecue, so the two dishes balanced each other perfectly.

With the taste, the atmosphere and the great price all covered, everyone in our group praised it as a meetup spot near Dongdaegu Station.

What do you do at the Modak marshmallow zone?

At the front of Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch there's a charmingly decorated marshmallow zone where you roast big skewered marshmallows over a fire yourself. After a hearty meal, we headed over.

Getting them perfectly golden, crisp outside and gooey inside, was harder than expected, so we focused hard and laughed together for quite a while.

We filled up on delicious mains, then finished with sweet dessert and a fun memory, so this Dongdaegu Station meetup couldn't have gone better.
