Weekday Sinnonhyeon café, lemon yogurt gâteau: Something About Coffee

Strangely, Gangnam Station doesn't have many cafés with a nice atmosphere worth going to, but I found one, haha! Something About Coffee (썸띵어바웃커피) is famous as a dessert hotspot, so I went to check it out, and it has lots of desserts, counts as a pretty big café, and has a lovely vibe too!

Where is Something About Coffee and what does it look like outside?

Something About Coffee is a café in a standalone three-floor building in an alley near Exit 6 of Sinnonhyeon Station. It sits slightly back from the busy main street, so the mood is more relaxed than I expected! The building looks full of charm from the outside, the kind that catches your eye even when you're just passing by! And since it's a standalone three-story building, it's pretty spacious for a café in the middle of Gangnam.

Something About Coffee: floor-by-floor atmosphere and terrace

The café runs from the 1st to the 3rd floor, and each floor has a slightly different mood. The 2nd floor, where you order, is the liveliest, while the 1st and 3rd floors are relatively quiet and good for chatting. There's also an outdoor terrace that's nice to sit at on a good-weather day! It's so famous as a dessert spot that it was quite crowded even on a weekday.

It's not just desserts: the drink menu is hugely varied too. Do try the signatures: the matcha cream choco latte, matcha cream cold brew and black sesame cream latte! haha A place with a menu for matcha lovers is always a good one 🤍

What's in the dessert showcase at Something About Coffee?

These are the desserts lined up in the showcase! Doesn't it have a French bakery feel, haha? They're covered with clear domes, so it feels hygienic, and every single dessert looked high quality.

From cakes to sando (sandwiches), baked goods and scones, there were so many desserts that I agonized for ages, lol. A happy dilemma for dessert lovers, right? I loved how glamorous the dessert lineup is for enjoying coffee time, haha.

What I ordered: matcha cream cold brew, Americano, lemon yogurt gâteau, financier

For drinks, I ordered an Americano and the matcha cream cold brew, which many people recommend as a signature. For desserts I chose the lemon yogurt gâteau (French-style cake) and a financier (almond butter cake), and they went perfectly with the coffee, haha!

The cups look stylish too, haha. Places that give you a tiny pour are gone in three sips and leave me wondering where to go next... lol, but Something About Coffee gives you plenty, so it's perfect for a long chat!

How does the matcha cream cold brew taste?

The matcha cream cold brew was sweet and bitter at the same time. I've had plenty of matcha drinks, but matcha cream plus cold brew was a first for me, and it was totally my taste!! haha If you like matcha, it's worth a try.

Lemon yogurt gâteau and financier

The lemon yogurt gâteau and financier went well with the coffee too. As you'd expect from a dessert hotspot, there were so many choices that it was hard to pick, lol, but I bet the other desserts are all delicious too.

The cream on the lemon yogurt gâteau is soft, and the lemon flavor and aroma are subtle. I don't usually go for lemon flavors, but I recommend the lemon yogurt gâteau at Something About Coffee, haha.

It's dense yet not too heavy, with a moderate sweetness and real depth of flavor, so it went really well with coffee.

Is it a good café to stay a long time near Gangnam Station?

Even though it's near Gangnam Station, Something About Coffee was a comfortable café to stay in for a long time. Gangnam cafés are usually so crowded they feel hectic, but here the space is big and the atmosphere is nice, so it was easy to spend time at a relaxed pace! I think it'd be a great pick as a Gangnam meeting spot :)
