It had been a while since I'd been out in Seoul, and I wanted to find somewhere with a nice atmosphere to chat and eat sweet desserts, so off I went! ☕

Where is Upper and Under and how do you get there from Sinnonhyeon Station?
I heard there was a pretty place near Sinnonhyeon Station where sunlight pours in through huge windows, so I headed straight there — Upper and Under 💚

It's about a 3-minute walk (298m) from Exit 6 of Sinnonhyeon Station, so I just followed the alley up and found it right away.

A large Gangnam café using the whole building, B1 to 2F
They use the entire building from the basement up to the 2nd floor, so it's big enough to spot from far away 🌿 The moment I arrived at the entrance, the charming red brick building mixed with green leaves was so pretty I started snapping photos right away 📸

Stepping in with high expectations, the ceilings were high and huge floor-to-ceiling windows let in gorgeous light — honestly amazing. There was a wide variety of seating spread across the 1st and 2nd floors,

and there was even a separate outdoor terrace that looked perfect for sipping coffee in the breeze on a cool day!

The overall clean white-toned base meant any seat was good for a great photo ✨
What desserts are in the Upper and Under bakery case?
On my way to the counter to order, the bakery lineup on display completely caught my eye!

There was a whole row of financiers in various flavors — plain, pistachio, hwangchiseu (yellow cheese), sweet potato, churro, salted chocolate — and cute little madeleines plus canelés in vanilla, Earl Grey, matcha, basil, and pistachio, all packed in tightly.

On top of that there were tarts like crème brûlée flan, peach pie, and caramel cheese pie — the dessert variety was so wide I really struggled to choose 🥧

Everything looked so good that after a lot of deliberation, I picked two drinks and two desserts to make a solid spread!

What we ordered at Upper and Under and what it cost
- Pistachio canelé ₩4,700
- Raspberry pound ₩8,500
- Salty caramel ₩8,000
- Mango lemonade ₩8,500
This is what I ordered 💸

How the pistachio canelé and raspberry pound tasted
The pistachio canelé I was most looking forward to came out round with a generous pile of nutty crumble piled on top 💚

Cutting it in half with a knife, the outside was pleasantly crisp while the inside was dense and chewy — a textbook crispy-outside, soft-inside canelé.
Every bite spread a nutty flavor through my whole mouth — anyone who likes baked goods will absolutely love this! The raspberry pound cake, with its striking pink look, had tart raspberry cream, jam, and toppings piled on top of the cake 🍰 The sponge underneath was crumbly yet had just the right density, which paired really well with the tangy cream.

The fruit's tartness kept it from being cloyingly sweet, so it was refreshing to eat without any heaviness 🍓
Were the salty caramel and mango lemonade worth it?
The salty caramel I chose for a drink was a sweet-and-salty einspänner topped with a cute little cookie sitting on the dense cream 🍪

Behind the sweet, soft cream came a savory caramel aroma that hit right after — that sweet-and-salty combo was spot on, and one sip instantly put me in a good mood.
I first scooped a bit of cream with a spoon, then later stirred it into the coffee base underneath, which brought out an even richer flavor. The mango lemonade I ordered alongside it had a yellow color that looked refreshing just to look at! 🍋

There were plenty of sweet mango bits sitting at the bottom of the glass, so stirring it well made for a fun bite of texture in between sips.

The tangy zing of lemon and the sweetness of mango blended really well — a drink that suits summer perfectly 🍹
