Garosu-gil cold udon restaurant: pan udon and onsen egg tempura, Tebo

In short

Tebo is a traditional Japanese Sanuki udon restaurant on Garosu-gil in Sinsa, Seoul, that makes its own noodles with a noodle machine inside the shop. On a hot day the writer ordered Tebo's pan udon (thin noodles with a cold sauce) and a pork loin katsu & mini udon set, then picked eggplant, onsen egg and shishito pepper tempura on the side; the chewy noodles and the onsen egg tempura stood out most. With reasonable prices and a clean dining room, Tebo is an easy udon stop for a date or a stroll along Garosu-gil.

I'm bringing you a review of Tebo, a great spot in Garosu-gil, Sinsa :) Tebo is a traditional Japanese Sanuki udon restaurant that makes its own noodles. It's easy to drop in while you're out strolling Garosu-gil, the interior and atmosphere are clean and neat so it works well for a date, and the handmade, authentic udon is delicious too, so this is a review I'm happy to recommend 🙆🏻‍♀️

Where is Tebo, and what about hours, parking and reservations?

Tebo is at 1F, 13-3 Apgujeong-ro 4-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and it's open every day from 11:30 to 20:30 (last order 20:00). Break time is 3:30 to 4:30 pm, parking isn't possible, and you can reserve through Catch Table (a Korean booking app).

Tebo sits on a street full of good places to eat in Garosu-gil 🙆🏻‍♀️ It's a 10-minute walk from Sinsa Station, so it's handy if you're on foot and looking around the area. There's no parking, so you'll need a nearby public car park 🚗 You can reserve on Catch Table, and it's popular enough that there was a wait even at 2 pm on a Saturday, so I recommend booking ahead. Break time is 3:30 to 4:30 pm!

How do you find Tebo from the outside?

Just look for the cute udon sign.

Tebo is a restaurant specializing in authentic Japanese Sanuki udon, so the noodle machine is right inside the shop. They make the noodles there themselves and cook with them.

You can check the menu outside before going in, and since it's a popular place that often has a wait, there are chairs out front for waiting.

What are the seats and atmosphere like inside Tebo?

Inside, Tebo has table seats and bar seats, mostly for two people. The interior is clean and pretty 🙆🏻‍♀️

If four or more people come, I think they'd push tables together, but at busy times a group might have a longer wait. The mood is great for a date, so there were lots of couples. When I visited, 4–5 of the parties looked like couples.

Coat hangers and bag basket inside Tebo

There are coat hangers and a basket (I think?) for your bag, which was convenient. Aprons are provided too!

You look at a paper menu and order by QR code. Of course, the QR menu also has descriptions and photos of the food, so you can order straight from it.

What kinds of udon are on Tebo's menu?

Tebo's menu has a wide range of udon: kake udon (udon in warm broth), kamabata udon (mixed udon), bukkake and cold udon you can enjoy chilled, zaru udon and pan udon for dipping in sauce, plus spicy haejang udon (hangover udon) and mala udon 🙆🏻‍♀️ There are also pork loin katsu and rice bowls.

Here's what I ordered 🧾

  • Pork loin katsu & mini udon set
  • Pan udon
  • Eggplant tempura (2)
  • Onsen egg tempura (2)
  • Shishito pepper tempura

What does Tebo's pan udon taste like?

Tebo's pan udon is udon you dip in cold sauce, the same way as zaru udon, but with thinner noodles. It was a hot day, so I picked pan udon, and maybe because the noodles are made in-house, they were wonderfully chewy and delicious.

Can you order tempura separately?

At Tebo, instead of an udon that comes with tempura, you can order plain udon and add tempura separately. I wanted to eat only the tempura I like with my udon, so I ordered the eggplant tempura, onsen egg tempura and shishito pepper tempura on their own!

All the tempura was good, but the onsen egg tempura was the real kick.

What is Tebo's pork loin katsu & mini udon set like?

Tebo's pork loin katsu was delicious too 🙆🏻‍♀️ It's a place that's good at fried food, not just udon. The katsu naturally comes with tonkatsu sauce, and dipping the tempura I'd ordered separately into that sauce was so good 🐷

The prices are reasonable, the food is delicious, and the shop is clean and pretty, so I recommend Tebo as a great place in Garosu-gil, Sinsa 👼🏻
