Bitters is a cocktail bar on basement level 1 of Hongik-ro, near Hongik Univ. Station in Mapo, Seoul, serving signature cocktails alongside a wide range of whisky and wine. On a Friday night the blogger and her husband waited about 30 minutes to get into Bitters, then ordered Macallan on the rocks, the signature Valheim and Sinclair cocktails, gambas and a melon jamón plate. The highlight was the Sinclair, whose startling first aroma slowly opened into whisky and sherry flavors, making Bitters a great Hongdae bar for getting recommendations and having a proper drink.

Hongdae cocktail bar for a couple's first date in 10 years: Rosetta

Rosetta is a cocktail bar on Eoulmadang-ro between Hapjeong Station and Hongdae in Mapo, Seoul, serving signature cocktails inspired by famous paintings. On her first bar date with her husband in nearly 10 years, the writer tried the Monet-inspired Water Lily Pond, the Summer Sunshine topped with seaweed, and a fruit and cheese platter with ripe plums. At 21,000 won per cocktail, Rosetta's prices felt unfamiliar at first, but the verdict is a 100% yes to going back.

Guui Station café: decaf cold brew bottles for home, Center Coffee

Center Coffee Guui East Pole (센터커피 구의이스트폴점) is an open-plan café on basement level 1 of NC East Pole, connected to Guui Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. The writer and her husband had a decaf cold brew (6,500 won), a green grape pine slush (7,000 won) and cheesecake, and liked the decaf cold brew enough to buy a bottle to make iced Americanos and lattes at home. Verdict: Center Coffee's decaf cold brew is clean rather than watery, a good fit for anyone who wants coffee in the afternoon.

Family Korean BBQ near Eungam Station with extra mushrooms: Yukjjip

Yukjjip Eungam is a Korean BBQ restaurant serving Jirisan aged pork at the start of Bulgwangcheon-gil, right by Eungam Station in Eunpyeong, Seoul. After a family walk along Bulgwangcheon Stream, the writer ordered the 600g mixed platter with added mushrooms and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), and Yukjjip staff grilled the meat from start to finish. The thick, juicy pork belly stood out most, making Yukjjip a good pick for families with kids or anyone who wants a relaxed meal and conversation.
