A hot new spot has opened in Cheongna! It's Songrimbok in Cheongna, famous for unlimited freshwater eel! I'd passed by Lake Park and seen a crowd there, and this time I finally got the chance to go! Here's my review of stuffing myself with unlimited grilled freshwater eel and falling for the quality.
Where is Songrimbok Cheongna and when is it open?

Songrimbok Cheongna exterior

They opened something like this in Cheongna?! The clean exterior and the words "unlimited freshwater eel" jump right out at you! You can already catch a bit of the aroma from the entrance, so my hopes are up!!

₩29,900, great value! There's even a certificate showing they're a partner of the direct sales market, so it feels trustworthy! Let's head right in!
What are the interior and seating like at Songrimbok Cheongna?
The inside of Songrimbok Cheongna is bigger than I expected, with a charcoal grill pot set up at every table. It's mostly 4-person tables, and there's group seating too.

Maybe thanks to the charcoal grill pots, not much smoke rises. Ventilation is good too! There were families there, and even though I went a bit early, there were already 2 group parties!
There's a self-serve bar, and oh, some famous people have visited too!
Songrimbok Cheongna menu and the price for two
The main item at Songrimbok Cheongna is the ₩29,900-per-person unlimited freshwater eel, and there are also eel soup, yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles), ramen, a lunch menu and draft beer. We ordered unlimited for two, the table setting fee and one draft beer, and the total came to ₩68,800.

Songrimbok, a Cheongna favorite! The basic menu is posted, and there are also eel soup, yukgaejang, makguksu and ramen!

There's a lunch menu too, and draft beer?! But of course unlimited freshwater eel is the main event here! I couldn't hide my excitement at the word "unlimited" and ordered right away!
- Unlimited freshwater eel for 2: ₩59,800
- Table setting fee for 2: ₩6,000
- 1 Hanmaek draft beer
- Total: ₩68,800
Since it's unlimited, the real charm is that you can eat your fill without worrying!

The side dishes and grill are set up~
How was the eel quality at Songrimbok unlimited?
From the moment the eel first came out, it had no frozen feel at all, and the flesh looked thick with just the right amount of fat. We started grilling it over charcoal together with pork belly.

The quality is clearly different from the moment the eel first comes out! Pork belly and freshwater eel going on the grill! Freshwater eel is all about charcoal, of course!! They told us to cook the skin side first, so skin first we went! You have to wait a bit until the charcoal heats up~
What's at the Songrimbok Cheongna self-serve bar?
The self-serve bar at Songrimbok Cheongna has all the standard side dishes, plus mushrooms, garlic, wraps and more. While the charcoal was heating up, I used the spare time to grab sauces and a refill~

There was no pork neck that day, but instead they'd put a little herb on the pork belly to add aroma! But can you see the quality of that eel??
Songrimbok pork belly and grilled eel taste
The herb pork belly at Songrimbok Cheongna had no gamey taste and was chewy, so it seemed to be fresh rather than frozen pork belly, and the grilled eel was classic: crispy outside, moist inside.

I put the pork belly in the middle, so it cooked first, and wait, what! This place is great for pork belly too! It seems they use fresh, not frozen! No gamey taste, and it's genuinely chewy and delicious!

That texture of eel, crispy on the outside and still moist inside~ It tasted like the textbook example of grilled eel! In short!!! It's really delicious!!!
How many times did we refill eel at Songrimbok?
At Songrimbok Cheongna we fetched eel almost 4 times, and the quality didn't drop no matter how many refills we did. That was the thing I liked most.

Grilling eel, and grilling, and grilling some more~ I think we fetched it almost 4 times, and it's truly an eel feast~~~ A tireless eel machine!

What I really loved about Songrimbok is that even though it's unlimited, the quality doesn't drop. That's what I liked most!

Eel with a draft beer is just~~~ perfect!
If you love eel and you're coming to Cheongna, definitely stop by~ It's also just right for a family meal out~! Strongly recommended as a Cheongna favorite!
