I visited Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu, a kalguksu spot in Bijeon-dong, Pyeongtaek! I usually like plain, non-spicy food, and this time I tried everything from kalguksu to perilla oil goldongmyeon (mixed noodles), napa cabbage mandu (dumplings) and boiled pork. The whole meal was clean and mild, and I was happy with it. The fried rice at the end was a charmer too!
Is parking easy at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu?
Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is on the first floor of 730 Pyeongnam-ro, Pyeongtaek, and you can use the parking lot on floors 2–4 of the same building. It is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30–21:00. On weekdays there is a break from 14:30 to 16:30, but no break on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Having dedicated parking in the building makes it easy to come by car. The entrance to the lot is narrow and sloped, though, so if you drive a large vehicle, take care going in.
Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu interior, seating and dining with kids

Walking in, I found the restaurant much bigger than I expected, and the inside was neat and clean!

The table areas are divided, so you can eat a bit apart from other guests, and it looked good for family meals or group gatherings.

They also have high chairs, so it seemed easy to come with young children.

🥬 Don't miss the cabbage and radish pickles at the self-serve bar
There is a tidy self-bar on one side of the restaurant.

You can help yourself to kimchi and other side dishes, and my favorite was the cabbage and radish pickles. We went back for refills three times! They aren't strongly seasoned, just mild and clean, so they were great to nibble on between bites. If you visit, please give them a try!
What's on the menu at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu?

Besides the signature mulchong kalguksu (clam kalguksu), there are noodle dishes like snowflake black-bean soy milk kalguksu and perilla oil goldongmyeon. For sides, there are napa cabbage mandu and pear-leaf pork (boiled pork), and at the end of the meal, four-season fried rice with kimchi is served free. With kalguksu, mandu, pork and fried rice all on offer, it's a good place to come with a group and order a set!
The 3-person set we ordered as three women

The three of us ordered the Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu 3-person set. You can choose the type of noodles, so we picked kalguksu and perilla oil goldongmyeon, and napa cabbage mandu and pear-leaf pork came with it. It was nice to taste so many dishes at once.

🥩 Warm, tender pear-leaf medicinal pork
The pear-leaf pork came out first in the 3-person set!

It was served warm, which made it even better, and eating the meat with the sauce, salted shrimp and dried radish strips was a really good combination. The meat was tender and easy to eat. Kids would eat this well too, so I thought I'd come back with the children next time.

🍜 How to eat mulchong kalguksu: clams first, noodles after
Next came the main dish, Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu! It arrives already boiled once, so you pick out the clams and eat them first, then add the noodles and boil them.

The instructions are posted beside the table, and the owner kindly explained them once more as well. I started with the clams, and they were chewy and delicious! After eating plenty of clams, I put in the noodles, flipped the hourglass and waited, and the noodles cooked just right.

The noodles were chewy, and the broth was clean without being harsh. I prefer mild, light flavors to food that is too salty or strong, so I was even happier with it.

Eating the mild kalguksu with kimchi got the seasoning just right. A sip of broth plus kimchi was a really good combo!

🌿 Perilla oil goldongmyeon wrapped in gamtae (1,000 won extra)
The perilla oil goldongmyeon looked appetizing from the start, and wrapping it in gamtae (a fine seaweed), added for ₩1,000, gave it extra savoriness and made it the most memorable dish of the day. Once mixed well, the nutty flavor of perilla oil came through, and the seasoning wasn't strong, so it was easy to eat.

And eating it with gamtae added even more savory depth, so good! It was a combination I'd never tried, and it suited my taste perfectly. In the end I kept adding gamtae for ₩1,000 and wrapping the noodles. The nuttiness of the perilla oil and the flavor of the gamtae go well together, so this one stayed with me.

🥟 Napa cabbage mandu with kimchi filling
Honestly, the napa cabbage mandu was the thing I was looking forward to most at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu! It looks different from ordinary dumplings, so I was curious how it would taste, and it was really good too. The flavor was mild and clean overall. Since the filling has kimchi in it, it won me over even more as a kimchi lover! It goes well with the kalguksu and is nice to nibble on between dishes.
Is the four-season fried rice free?
Yes, the four-season fried rice at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is free, and the sign said refills are possible. The meal ends with the four-season fried rice, which has kimchi in it, and I enjoyed it.

It's a great way to wrap up after the kalguksu and all the other dishes. Best of all, it's free and you can get more, which made me even happier! A bowl of plain rice is also free for elementary-school children and under, so that's worth knowing if you come with kids. I think they'd eat rice happily with the kalguksu broth.

Dessert: sikhye and iced Americano
I also liked that you can have dessert at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu after eating!

If you write a review, you can have sikhye (sweet rice drink) as dessert, and there is ice too, so you can enjoy a cold iced Americano as well. ☕️ From meal to dessert, it was a satisfying finish!
Verdict: a Pyeongtaek kalguksu restaurant for fans of mild, clean flavors
This time at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu I tried everything from kalguksu to perilla oil goldongmyeon, napa cabbage mandu and pear-leaf pork. Overall the flavors weren't strong, just light and clean, and I was happy with it. What stayed with me most were the perilla oil goldongmyeon eaten with gamtae and the napa cabbage mandu, which was better than I expected. With the fried rice at the end, it was a hearty finish to the meal.
The restaurant was spacious and tidy, and the owner explained everything kindly, so it was a pleasant meal. If you're looking for a good kalguksu place in Bijeon-dong, Pyeongtaek, or want to try a variety of dishes alongside kalguksu, Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is worth a visit! Next time I plan to come back with the kids. 😊
