Soy sauce pork bone stew with egg fried rice in Godeok: San Ppyeojjim
In short
San Ppyeojjim (산뼈찜) is a pork bone stew and bone soup restaurant on Tanhyeon-ro in Godeok, Pyeongtaek. On a second visit, the writer skipped the house San Ppyeojjim and ordered a small soy sauce bone stew (2 servings) with egg fried rice. The Cheongyang chili gave the clean soy flavor a spicy kick that set it apart from soy-braised chicken, and the broth mixed into the fried rice worked well. San Ppyeojjim is worth a stop in Pyeongtaek if you like bone dishes and unusual menus.

San Ppyeojjim (산뼈찜) in Godeok is one of Pyeongtaek's most unusual eats, and I went back for a second visit to try a different bone stew flavor.

Rain was in the forecast and all I could think about was something hot and brothy, so I remembered San Ppyeojjim, the pork bone stew and bone soup spot in Godeok, and ran over~
What is the atmosphere and table setting like at San Ppyeojjim?

There are still so many dishes I want to try at this bone specialist that I count it as a must-visit in Pyeongtaek. It's one of the first restaurants I think of when friends say they're coming to visit~

When you eat in, a staff member sets the table with a water bottle, plates, a bone bin, spoons and chopsticks, and tissues.
San Ppyeojjim menu and weekday lunch discount

You order at a kiosk~ See the image below for the main signature menu.
There's bone soup, bone kalguksu (noodle soup), and bone jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), plus sides like fried rice and even pizza! The signature bone stew (ppyeojjim) comes in three types: the mild San Ppyeojjim, the spicy Hwasan Ppyeojjim, and the sweet-spicy Soy Sauce Ppyeojjim.

On weekdays from 11:30 to 2:00 for lunch, you get ₩1,000 off when you order a special set menu.

Oh, and San Ppyeojjim is as popular for delivery and takeout as for dining in, because delivery drivers kept coming and going nonstop!?

- Soy sauce bone stew, small (2 servings)
- Egg fried rice

What does San Ppyeojjim's soy sauce bone stew taste like?
The soy sauce bone stew has Cheongyang chili peppers in it, so it's clean and mildly spicy, with a soy flavor that isn't overpowering. I'd tried the original San Ppyeojjim last time, so I went for something different this time. They give you a raw egg with the soy sauce version; once it boils, you turn the heat down low and stir the egg in, they said.

Gnawing on the bones while eating the tteokbokki rice cakes alongside is the best. It tasted spicy-clean, and that's thanks to the Cheongyang peppers. The soy flavor isn't harsh like a store-made sauce, and it has a different charm from soy sauce braised chicken (ganjang jjimdak).

How big and how good is the egg fried rice?
The egg fried rice comes out so fluffy and well stir-fried that it could beat any Chinese restaurant's. It's also a good dish if you're eating with kids. The portion is big, so the two of us shared it. It's mild and nutty, and you just keep scooping it into your mouth!

Putting kimchi on top is the golden rule, right? So good!
Mixing egg fried rice into the soy sauce bone stew broth

The soy sauce bone stew and egg fried rice went together better than I expected. Spooning the sweet-spicy broth over the fried rice and mixing it all together gave me a whole new flavor~

Where are the self-service bar and aprons at San Ppyeojjim?
At the self bar you can grab side dishes like kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), kimchi, radish, and seasoned chili peppers, as much as you'll eat.

Gloves, wet wipes, and pepper and salt shakers are on the table right next to the self bar.

Wearing light-colored clothes? Definitely put on an apron when eating bone stew. The aprons hang on the wall near the self bar!
Tips for visiting San Ppyeojjim

Maybe because many people take leftovers home, there's now a takeout environmental fee I hadn't seen before~ Ordering only what you can eat in the restaurant and enjoying it there is probably best, right?
If you love dishes made with bones and want something unusual to eat, stop by San Ppyeojjim in Pyeongtaek~

If you write a receipt review, you can get one can of a drink.
