Dog-friendly Hapjeong café for Basque cheesecake: Seowon Angil
In short
Seowon Angil Hapjeong is a large two-floor Western brunch café in Mapo, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Hapjeong Station Exit 3. Sitting solo by the floor-to-ceiling windows on the first floor, the writer had creamy salmon poached egg Benedict, red plum ade, and a handmade Mom's Basque cheesecake so moist it ranked as the best Basque cheesecake tried so far. Dogs are welcome with proof of vaccination, making it a great spot to return to with a pet.

Hello everyone! I finally had brunch in Hapjeong again after a while, and the place was so clean and the food was really tasty. This time I went alone, but since dogs are allowed, next time I'm bringing my puppy along! So let me introduce Seowon Angil, a large café in Hapjeong known for Western-style brunch.
Walking to Seowon Angil from Hapjeong Station

Seowon Angil is about a 5-minute walk from Hapjeong Station Exit 3. Walk up the stairs and you'll find the entrance!

What to bring if you're coming with your dog
Seowon Angil is legally allowed to welcome dogs, and they said they strictly follow the safety and hygiene guidelines set by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and keep up ongoing management. So owners bringing along their lovely dogs must bring proof of vaccination. Please check the photo for other precautions, and I hope you have a safe and happy time with your dog ૮ ◞ ﻌ ◟ ა

What the vibe is like across the two floors
The place was really clean and comfortable! The staff were friendly too, so I felt good from the moment I walked in.
Being a large café, the space is huge, and there's a whole second floor too, so there's plenty of choice for seating. But honestly every seat looked so pretty, I think you'd be happy anywhere.

The brown floors give the whole place a warm feel, and they added a unique touch with highly saturated colored furniture as accents. Big cafés can sometimes feel a bit cluttered just because the space is so large, but Seowon Angil is filled with furniture and props so it never felt empty — the place was really pretty.
And the restroom, which really matters, was clean and well-maintained too. No smell either! Plus... the toilet seat is heated and there's a bidet.
The menu and what I ordered

There are so many Western brunch items on the menu, I nearly went crazy wanting to try everything... But I decided I absolutely had to try the handmade Basque cheesecake. So here's what I ordered:
- Creamy Salmon Poached Egg Benedict ₩13,500
- Handmade Mom's Basque Cheesecake ₩6,400
- Red Plum Ade ₩7,800

I took a seat on the first floor next to the floor-to-ceiling windows. The weather's been so nice lately, and it felt great to watch the cool breeze outside. It had been a while since I enjoyed some time alone, and it was lovely.

How the creamy salmon poached egg Benedict tasted
The brunch I ordered arrived (´ ε ` ) It's an open sandwich with cream cheese, salmon, a poached egg, and onion on top of house-made sourdough bread. Plus baby greens and carrot rapé! The salmon had great color, no old smell at all, and tasted really fresh — I loved it.
They carefully broke the poached egg for me, and you can see it's perfect. It's nutty and pairs really well with the sandwich.

Like I said, the salmon being so fresh made it even better, and eating it along with the onions and baby green salad in between bites cleansed my palate too. I don't usually like carrots, but this was my first time trying carrot rapé, and it was actually pretty good?! Turns out I may not eat carrots, but I can eat carrot rapé haha.

Eating it with the poached egg piled on top makes every bite so satisfying and fills you right up (◍•ڡ•◍)

Red plum ade and the Basque cheesecake
After finishing the sandwich, on to dessert. You know dessert has its own separate stomach, right?
The red plum ade is a plum-based ade! There are finely chopped plum pieces inside, so bits of plum come up through the straw along with the drink. Just drinking it, it's a sweet ade with plum fragrance, but eating the pieces along with it, it genuinely tasted like real plum!!
The carbonation was fizzy too~ It was a bit hot out, so one sip was so refreshing.

And this handmade Mom's Basque cheesecake — you MUST order it. I'm giving it the number one spot among all the Basque cheesecakes I've ever had. It's not an exaggeration to call this place a Basque cheesecake specialist!!! ㅠㅠ
So moist, it melts in your mouth... I was already full but it was so good I finished every bite... You have to try it ƪ('-' ƪ)
Why it was such a good place to spend time alone
The place is pretty, the staff are friendly, and the food is delicious, so I had a genuinely good time. The view through the floor-to-ceiling windows was lovely too, so I zoned out a bit, watched some videos I like, read a little, and just enjoyed myself ㅎ.ㅎ I came today as part of a sponsored campaign, but I already thought about coming back again next time I want to read a book at a café!
If you're looking for a large café in Hapjeong, I recommend Seowon Angil, a great spot for Western-style brunch!
