Introduction to hangover soup breakfast in Aewol, Jeju

A breakfast stop in Aewol on the last day of my Jeju trip

On the final morning of my Jeju trip, I decided to look around Aewol. But I really, really needed a hangover cure from the drinks the night before, haha. So today, I set out to find a great haejangguk (hangover soup) spot in Jeju’s Aewol and have a hearty breakfast.

I ordered chadol haejangguk, and I absolutely loved this local Aewol favorite: the broth was clean and deeply flavored, with plenty of meat. It was none other than Aewol Eomma (애월엄마)!

Ordering chadol haejangguk and abalone mulhoe

  • Chadol haejangguk ₩13,000
  • Abalone mulhoe ₩15,000

As soon as I entered Aewol Eomma, I was already pleased by how new and spotless the facilities were, but the utensils and table setting were perfect too, so my satisfaction went way up, up!!! The side dishes came in such pretty bowls and tableware, and the haejangguk arrived in a pot, so I could enjoy it warm the whole time. From start to finish, this was a truly great Aewol restaurant.

A proper hangover cure with chadol haejangguk

My friend chose the chadol haejangguk at this Aewol, Jeju haejangguk spot. Aewol Eomma’s chadol haejangguk is generously filled with fire-kissed beef brisket, tender beef shank, crisp mung bean sprouts, chewy glass noodles, and fragrant young napa cabbage.

In particular, I heard Aewol Eomma is a haejangguk specialist visited by Jeju locals too. The broth is simmered for a long time with domestic Korean beef bones, and you could really taste that deep flavor in every spoonful.

The broth was rich and made my stomach feel warmly settled. There was loads of meat too, so it was super filling with rice! For anyone who drank the night before, this really makes the hangover melt away~

Adding a refreshing abalone mulhoe

Then the abalone mulhoe arrived too! It looked wonderfully refreshing from the start. The abalone was sliced thinly, giving it such a nice crisp-chewy bite. With spicy-tangy seasoning and a broth with a thin layer of ice, one bite between the chadol haejangguk made my whole mouth feel instantly refreshed.

The abalone was fresh and the mulhoe broth was delicious, so we thoroughly enjoyed both dishes. Aewol Eomma’s tableware was especially pretty too, and it somehow made me feel treated. The side dishes were neatly served and went well with everything.

A hearty meal for the final day of the trip

This was the breakfast I had in Aewol on the final day of my Jeju trip. I filled up with chadol haejangguk and got that refreshing finish from the abalone mulhoe, ending the trip on such a happy note. The chadol haejangguk was especially delicious with all that meat, so I think I will come back for it next time I am in Jeju. I totally recommend it to anyone looking for a local Aewol restaurant or a hearty breakfast. Another delicious meal successfully checked off on my last day in Jeju!
