Sashimi restaurant in Sindang: set with clear fish soup, Ido Hoetjip
In short
Ido Hoetjip (이도횟집) is a live raw fish restaurant in Sindang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, near Yaksu Station Exit 1. On a Friday evening, two diners skipped the course and ordered the small mixed sashimi and spicy fish stew set for 53,000 won, swapped the stew for jiritang (clear fish soup) and added albap (fish roe rice bowl); the live flounder, rockfish and red sea bream sashimi plus the side dishes were more than they could finish. Verdict: if you want plenty of sashimi at Ido Hoetjip, the sashimi set beats the course.

A last-minute sashimi dinner in Sindang after a hair appointment
The only reason I was in Sindang was to get my hair done and go straight home, and then... lol.

We had actually planned not to meet that day, haha. But I'd been so stressed at work the day before, and it was Friday, so I said, let's have a soju! and we made a sudden plan.🍻
While looking for a raw fish place, I found Ido Hoetjip (이도횟집). Lately I'd been craving plain, clean-tasting fresh live fish rather than aged sashimi, and when we saw the prices we were both shocked at the same moment. I thought this might be the ultimate value sashimi place near Yaksu Station, so we went right away.

What is the atmosphere like at Ido Hoetjip?
Since Ido Hoetjip is tucked inside an alley, I first assumed it would be an old-school, well-worn kind of place.

But when we went in, I was surprised at how clean it was.

The fish tanks were kept clean, and the tables were spaced widely so it didn't feel cramped.

Maybe because it was Friday, there were lots of families, and on weekdays it seems to be a popular spot for company dinners.

The staff were friendly and quick, so we had a pleasant meal.
Course or sashimi set at Ido Hoetjip: which should you order?
After some thought, we ordered the small mixed sashimi + spicy fish stew set for ₩53,000 and added an albap (roe rice bowl). The staff told us the course comes with a wider variety of skidari (side dishes), while the sashimi set has more raw fish.

I honestly agonized over the course, but since that's what the staff told me, we who love sashimi decided on the set.
Small mixed sashimi: which live fish you get
Verdict: totally satisfied, haha. The mixed sashimi was made up of flounder, rockfish, red sea bream and so on, exactly the plain live fish style I wanted. I'd been wanting this texture more than aged sashimi lately, and it was chewy and fresh, so I was very happy.
Complimentary side dishes (sukidashi)
The basic skidari at Ido Hoetjip come out really well too. Corn cheese, odeng-tang (fish cake soup), steamed egg, edamame and seaweed soup, all neatly done and every one of them good.

The steamed egg was especially good, so I kept going back to it. The amount is crazy for the price, and I instantly agreed with why Ido Hoetjip near Yaksu Station is called great value.

Adding albap (fish roe rice bowl)
And the albap (roe rice bowl) we added. I really recommend this, haha. The price is kind, the portion is quite big, and it's nutty and goes perfectly with the sashimi. Adding one albap was absolutely the right choice!!!
Jiritang (clear fish soup) instead of spicy fish stew
The spicy fish stew in the Ido Hoetjip sashimi set can be changed to jiritang (clear fish soup), so we chose that, and the broth was really refreshing and clean. It had plenty of bean sprouts and generous fish, which was perfect to eat while drinking.

There was so much that in the end neither of us could finish it all.😂 If we had ordered the course, I think we really couldn't have eaten it all. Hahahahahaha

The Ido Hoetjip course includes grilled mackerel, albap and more, so it's an even better value, but if you want to eat lots of sashimi, I really recommend ordering a sashimi set like I did.

For the record, we drank... 3 bottles of soju.🤣
Ido Hoetjip in Sindang: is the sashimi set worth it?
I went to shake off work stress and came out properly satisfied. Ido Hoetjip has good sashimi quality, a really kind price, a generous basic lineup and friendly staff, so my satisfaction was high.
For anyone looking for a date spot around Yaksu Station or Sindang: if you love sashimi, get the sashimi set, and if you want a wider variety, I recommend the course. It was good enough that I thought I could bring my parents next time. If you're looking for a good-value sashimi restaurant in Sindang, give it a visit!
