Teukbyeolhan Chobap, a Yeongtong favorite: this quality at this price? Great-value sushi in Suwon
On days when sushi is on your mind, there's always the same dilemma. It has to taste good, it shouldn't cost too much, and above all the fish has to be fresh! Yesterday evening I went to Teukbyeolhan Chobap (특별한초밥), a Yeongtong spot that's popular by word of mouth. It was past 7 p.m. on a weekday, yet the place was packed, and it was popular enough that there was even a wait.
Once I'd been there myself, I understood right away why it gets recommended so often as great-value sushi in Suwon. The ₩1,890 price per plate was amazing, but the quality of the sushi was better than I expected 😆
Where is Teukbyeolhan Chobap, and is there parking?

Teukbyeolhan Chobap is about a 5-minute walk from Yeongtong Station, on the 2nd floor of the Jungsim Sangga building, so it's easy to reach by public transport. If you drive, you can park in the building's lot for free during your meal, so it's no hassle for a family dinner or a date either.

Is there a wait on weekday evenings? Atmosphere and seating

We got to Teukbyeolhan Chobap a little after 7 p.m. on a weekday and it was already full inside. We waited a short while, and more customers kept coming in behind our group..!

"This must be a seriously good place" — I couldn't help thinking that. The restaurant was clean and bright overall, and the conveyor rail runs on for a long stretch, so you can comfortably pick whatever you want.

There are both table seats and bar seats, and I saw quite a few people eating alone as well as families, friends and couples.

It really is an easy place to eat solo, so I thought it would be a good stop whenever you crave sushi on your own. The staff refilled plates right away and were friendly, so the whole meal was a pleasant experience :)
Teukbyeolhan Chobap prices and menu

Conveyor-belt sushi at Teukbyeolhan Chobap is a flat ₩1,890 per plate. Isn't the price the biggest reason it's famous as great-value sushi in Suwon? Considering what sushi costs these days, it was an amount that let you try lots of different kinds without worrying.

Above all, the variety was great. Besides the basics like salmon, tuna, shrimp and egg, there were yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and beef sushi, so the choice was wide.

Raw shrimp sushi with gamtae and sea urchin on the conveyor belt
What surprised me most was that they even had raw shrimp sushi topped with gamtae (a fine, silky seaweed) and sea urchin..! You usually only see this kind of item at pricier sushi restaurants, so seeing it at a conveyor-belt place for the first time was fascinating. The quality is crazy, right haha?
There are also gunkan, rolls and side dishes, so even people who don't want to eat only sushi will be satisfied. Every plate looked clean and fresh, and watching fresh sushi being refilled in front of you in real time added the fun of watching to the fun of eating haha
How good is ₩1,890 sushi, and how thick is the fish?

When I started eating plate by plate, the first thing I noticed was that the fish was thicker than I'd thought. Given the low price I expected small pieces, but the slices were nicely thick, which I was happy about.

Above all, the ingredients were fresh so I could barely taste any fishiness, and the rice was seasoned just right, which brought out the flavor of the fish.

Torch-seared salmon sushi and shrimp sushi
The salmon sushi had a lovely melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the lightly seared surface made it taste even richer and nuttier.

I love things lightly torched, and at Teukbyeolhan Chobap they prepared it deliciously without my even ordering it separately 😆👍

The shrimp sushi kept its springy texture too, and as I ate one after another, the plates naturally kept piling up haha
Most memorable plate: gamtae and sea urchin raw shrimp sushi
Personally, the most memorable dish at Teukbyeolhan Chobap was the gamtae and sea urchin sushi. The gentle sea scent of the gamtae and the rich flavor of the sea urchin came together so well that I wondered if this was really a budget conveyor-belt place 😌

With conveyor-belt sushi there's the fun of grabbing whatever you want right away, and it's not just good value: the freshness and the menu lineup were satisfying too, so I understood why customers never stop coming :)
Teukbyeolhan Chobap: final verdict

Teukbyeolhan Chobap, which I visited while looking for a good place near Yeongtong Station, was a very satisfying choice.
- Excellent value at ₩1,890 per plate
- Varied sushi and a wide menu
- Fresh fish and a clean restaurant
- An atmosphere that suits everyone from solo diners to family meals
Having been there myself, I can see why it's popular enough to have a wait even on a weekday evening. The price is easy on the wallet but the quality was better than expected, so if you're looking for great-value sushi in Suwon, I recommend visiting Teukbyeolhan Chobap at least once :)
