Jungdong, Changwon Korean BBQ: half-pig set and cumin sauce at Anmin
In short
Anmin Jung-dong is a fresh-pork charcoal BBQ restaurant on the 1st floor of Abel Plaza in Jungdong, Uichang-gu, Changwon, where staff grill the meat and set it on a mini brazier at your table. The writer and a friend shared the Anmin half-pig set (39,500 won) with crab doenjang stew and Masitte cold ramen, and enjoyed dipping the thick pork belly in salt, barley ssamjang, cumin sauce and cheese fondue sauce. Today I'm introducing a Korean BBQ place in Jungdong, Changwon that I visited with a friend: Anmin (안민). Anmin Jung-dong is neat and clean, and the meat quality is good too, so I wanted to recommend it!
Where is Anmin Jung-dong, and is there parking?
Anmin Jung-dong is on the 1st floor of Abel Plaza in Jungdong, Changwon, and there's a separate public parking lot right in front. So if you're coming by car, you don't need to worry about parking!! There are cafés nearby too, so it looks like a nice spot to grab tea after your meal :)

Anmin is modern and clean, and the sign is a brick-style brown tone, so it feels homey and warm even before you walk in.

From outside you can see it has full-length windows, so it didn't look stuffy. The entrance is decorated like a stone-wall path, which put me in a good mood ✨️

What is the atmosphere like at Anmin Jung-dong?
The inside of Anmin Jung-dong was calm and tidy in wood tones. The full-length windows show green scenery outside, so it never felt stuffy. Bottles of all kinds are on display too, which gives it a classy mood :) It looks good for dates or family gatherings.

Side dishes and dipping sauces at Anmin Jung-dong
The side dishes at Anmin Jung-dong included myeongi namul (pickled wild greens), pickled onions, green onion kimchi and lettuce wraps, and the sauces were really varied 🥗 From plain salt to cumin sauce, cheese fondue and salted cutlassfish guts, you can dip to your taste and try lots of flavors, which I liked.
What we ordered 🍴
- Half-pig set
- Crab doenjang stew
- Masitte cold ramen

Is the half-pig set enough for two people?
The Anmin half-pig set was just right for two. When we went to Anmin in Gimhae, the half-pig set for two was a perfect amount, so this time too I ordered it right away. The half-pig set comes with pork belly, pork neck and pork skin.
Do the staff grill the meat for you?
At Anmin Jung-dong, they grill the meat for you. So we only had to eat, and it was so convenient. Honestly, grilling meat is a hassle, and you worry about the oil splattering too, right? The finished meat is placed on a mini charcoal brazier right beside you, and I liked that we could keep eating it warm 💓

How thick is the pork belly, and how does it taste?
Can you see how thick the pork belly is at Anmin Jung-dong? It's not called thick-cut for nothing. It's quite chunky, and the bright pink color made me think this has to be a great pork belly place.

The pork belly 🥩 was grilled by a pro, and maybe that's why the outside was beautifully golden. One bite and the juices filled my mouth, so rich and nutty. For thick pork belly, dipping in salt is my favorite. I felt I could taste more of the pork's true flavor.

Do barley ssamjang and cumin sauce go with the pork?
I was told the barley ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste for wraps) at Anmin Jung-dong is made in-house, and dipped with the meat it had a subtle savory depth and went really well 👍

I tried the cumin sauce (zhi ran) too :) It was my first time dipping in it. It has that distinctive spice aroma and flavor, but it cut the greasiness of the meat more than I expected, so it was clean and easy to eat.

Pork neck dipped in cheese fondue sauce
I wondered if the pork neck 🥩 at Anmin Jung-dong might be tough, but it was surprisingly moist and tender. It still had a nice chew, and it was almost fat-free, so it wasn't heavy to eat. I dipped the pork neck in the cheese fondue sauce, and it was mildly sweet, smooth and nutty, a taste kids would love too!

Finishing with pork skin and roasted soybean powder
And of course we finish with the pork skin, right? The pork skin at Anmin Jung-dong was so chewy, and dipped in roasted soybean powder the nutty flavor rushed in, so it felt like eating pork skin the right way~
How were the cold ramen and crab doenjang stew?
For the meal we ordered Masitte cold ramen, crab doenjang stew and a bowl of rice. Ramen is a hard-to-find item at BBQ places, so I knew we had to order it.

Take a look at the cold ramen 🍜 Ice floating in the broth looked so refreshing before I even ate it. The noodles were chewy, and the broth was so cold and savory that I kept reaching for more 🧡

The bean sprouts were crunchy too, and overall it was clean and light to eat.

The crab doenjang stew 🍲 had one big crab on top, and thanks to the crab the doenjang broth had a deeper savory flavor and a nice kick. It was generously filled with zucchini, tofu and more, so with rice it made a really filling meal 🍴
