On a first visit before guests came over, the writer tried a few flavors through a receipt review event, then took home 2 mocha castellas. Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae: why castella for guest day
On the day guests were coming over, I visited Jinsim Castella (진심카스테라) in Gimpo Gurae for the first time and took home 2 mocha castellas. I'd been going back and forth between a simple snack for the kids and a dessert for the adults, but I didn't want anything too grand. I wanted something a lot of people could share easily. Castella is easy on kids and goes well with coffee, so it seemed like a good thing to have ready for guests. So this time I packed up 2 mocha castellas :)

Shop atmosphere and how to choose at Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae
The shop was neatly kept, so it was easy to walk in and browse the menu. It isn't very big, but it's just right for picking out a castella and taking it to go. You can choose by looking at the displayed items, so I think it's fine to show up without deciding on a flavor beforehand.
There were several flavors starting from plain castella, and after a short think I tried a few through the receipt review event. The others were tasty too, but! I went with mocha. I'd planned on one for the guests, then decided to get 2 so there'd be plenty haha

What flavors does Jinsim Castella have, and what does mocha taste like?
Besides plain castella, Jinsim has mocha, chocolate, mugwort and other flavors, so you can pick by taste. This time I chose 2 mocha castellas out of the lineup.
Since it was my first visit, I wasn't sure which flavor would be best, and I settled on mocha. When I ate it, the coffee aroma was faint and it suited my taste well. It wasn't too strong or bitter; the soft castella and the mocha flavor blended together naturally.

Mocha castella texture: fluffy, not dry
When I cut the mocha castella at home, it was fluffy and soft overall. It went down smoothly rather than feeling dry, which made it nice as a snack.
The mocha flavor especially adds a faint coffee note to the castella's sweetness, and I quite liked it. I prefer desserts where the coffee is noticeable but not overpowering, and this was exactly my style haha. I'd bought it to share with the guests, but it turned out so much tastier than I expected that I'll probably pick the same flavor next time lol

Castella as a guest dessert: how many do you need?
There's nothing complicated to prepare with the mocha castella. Just cut it into bite-size pieces and put it on a plate, and it looks fine. It's easy to serve when guests come over, and I figured kids would have it with milk or a drink, while adults would pair it with coffee.
This time I got 2 mocha castellas, and I think one would have been a little short. With several people eating, it disappeared faster than expected haha If you're looking for a simple cake or dessert at home that isn't too heavy and can be shared by many, castella seems like a good option.

First visit to Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae, and going back
It was my first visit and I hesitated a bit over which flavor to pick, but in the end I was glad I chose the mocha castella. The fluffy texture plus a faint mocha aroma makes it good on its own, and I think it would go even better with coffee.
If you want a simple snack for guest day, or a cake that everyone from kids to adults can eat, you could pick a flavor to your taste at Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae. The mocha suited me, so I'd probably choose it again next time haha Also, if you cut the castella neatly like a cake and serve it on a plate, it feels like you prepared a proper dessert, which was handy for hosting :) And the guests really did love it and said it was delicious haha
