Korean restaurant in Gwangsan with suyuk set meals: Sinjuokmi

My parents and our family of four went to Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch for lunch. We each chose a gukbap to suit our tastes and ordered set meals that all came with suyuk (boiled pork). What I remember most from that day was the tender suyuk served alongside the gukbap.

Can you park if you drive to the restaurant?

There was parking in front of and around the restaurant. We parked directly in front before going in, which made it convenient to visit by car with my parents.

What did our family of four order?

We ordered one gosari gat sundae-guk suyuk set, two gat sundae-guk suyuk sets, and one nourishing glutinous-rice scorched-rice dwaeji-gukbap suyuk set. Since it was lunch with family, we decided to have a hearty meal with both gukbap and suyuk.

At the time of our visit, there was a notice saying that participants in a Naver receipt-review event would receive either purple sweet-potato bread snacks or a canned drink.

Hutgaesu water was served as drinking water.

What stood out about the suyuk?

The restaurant says it boils pork itself four times a day for its sundae-guk and suyuk set meals. When I tried it, there was almost no off smell, and the meat was tender rather than tough. I tend to notice even a slight smell in suyuk, but that was not an issue that day.

My parents also seemed to find it different from the suyuk they usually have, saying, “So this is what suyuk can taste like,” and enjoyed it. We went for gukbap, but the suyuk stayed more clearly in my memory from this meal.

How did the three gukbap varieties differ?

What came with the standard gat sundae-guk suyuk set?

Gat sundae-guk is presented by the restaurant as a traditional sundae-guk made with freshly boiled pork and house-made sundae (Korean blood sausage). We ordered it as a suyuk set, so we had the gukbap and suyuk together.

I added plenty of chives to my gukbap.

How is gosari gat sundae-guk different from the standard menu?

Gosari gat sundae-guk is distinguished by gosari (bracken fern) added to the standard sundae-guk. The restaurant also introduced it as one of its signature dishes.

It seemed like an option to consider when you want something a little different from standard sundae-guk. If you go with several people, ordering both the standard gat sundae-guk and the gosari version to share, as we did, could work well.

Was rice served separately with the glutinous-rice scorched-rice dwaeji-gukbap?

My father chose the nourishing glutinous-rice scorched-rice dwaeji-gukbap suyuk set. It is dwaeji-gukbap (pork soup with rice) containing glutinous-rice scorched rice. I remember that it arrived with the scorched rice already in it, so rice was not served separately.

What can you add at the self-service bar?

If the basic side dishes were not enough, you could bring more yourself from the self-service bar.

I liked that, beyond the side dishes, you could add as much somyeon (thin wheat noodles) as you wanted. If you wanted to put somyeon in your gukbap, you could take as much as you planned to eat.

How was it for lunch with my parents?

From standard gat sundae-guk to gosari sundae-guk and glutinous-rice scorched-rice dwaeji-gukbap, there were choices that let each family member pick what they wanted. Since we all ordered suyuk sets, we could have meat alongside our gukbap.

My parents were pleased with the food too, so I felt we had made a good menu choice. In particular, ordering the set felt worthwhile because the suyuk was tender and had almost no off smell.

We could bring more side dishes and somyeon, and parking in front made getting there convenient. It felt like a decent choice when I wanted to have gukbap and suyuk for lunch with my parents.
