Korean restaurant in Gwangsan with sundae-guk lunch: Sinjuokmi
In short
Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch is a Korean restaurant in Jangdeok-dong, Gwangsan, where I had two gukbap-and-suyuk set lunches. The warm, tender suyuk and generous meat in the gukbap were satisfying, though the nurungji was less softened than on my previous visit.

How was lunch with sundae-guk in Suwan District?
I returned to Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch (신주옥미 수완지구점) for sundae-guk (Korean sausage soup) at lunch. It is on Suwan District's restaurant street, so it was not difficult to find.

I had visited once before, and it was busy again that day. We sat near the entrance.

Is there seating for children or larger groups?
High chairs were available separately in the restaurant. Along with gukbap, there were suyuk (boiled pork) dishes, so I thought it would be fine for a family meal.

The restaurant was spacious and bright. I was told that there were set times each day when the suyuk was freshly boiled.

At the time of my visit, most diners were eating in groups of two or four. The separately arranged reserved table was set for six, so there was also space for a larger group to sit together.

What did we order, and how much was the suyuk add-on?
We ordered one meat-only sundae-guk suyuk set and one nurungji dwaeji-gukbap (scorched-rice pork soup) suyuk set. At the time of my visit, adding ₩3,000 to a basic sundae-guk included suyuk. It was a good accompaniment when gukbap alone felt a little incomplete.

How do you use the side dishes and dining supplies?
The basic side dishes arrived after we ordered. There were also sauces to add to the gukbap and adjust the seasoning to taste, and extra side dishes were available from the self-service bar.

You could ask staff for an apron or take one yourself.

The self-service bar had chives, kimchi, onions, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), and more. Children's tableware was also available separately.

How did the suyuk and gukbap taste?
I think we arrived around the time the suyuk had just been boiled. The suyuk was warm and tender.

After taking a spoonful of the broth, I remembered enjoying it on my previous visit. The suyuk was tender too, so I enjoyed it with the gukbap.

The broth was not especially milky-looking, but it had a deep flavor. Adding extra chives from the self-service bar made it even better for my taste. There was plenty of meat, so I could have meat with every spoonful, and I felt full after the meal.

What was disappointing compared with my previous visit?
I chose a nurungji dish on both my previous and this visit, but the degree to which the nurungji had softened was different. It had been thoroughly softened before, which I liked, but this time it was less softened. Since I prefer thoroughly softened nurungji, this was a little disappointing.

Although I was disappointed by the texture of the nurungji, the warm suyuk and meat-filled gukbap made for a filling lunch. I thought the suyuk would also be good alongside a meal or as an evening drinking snack.
