Seokchon Lake gukbap lunch on a cold day: jowl suyuk set, Boseung
In short
Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch (보승회관 방이점) is a 24-hour sundaeguk (Korean blood sausage soup) and gukbap (rice soup) restaurant on Ogeum-ro in Songpa, Seoul, right in front of Seokchon Lake. On a chilly day around 1 p.m., the writer and a friend ordered two pork jowl suyuk (boiled pork) sets, one with mild milky broth and one with spicy broth, and Boseung Hoegwan was full with a waiting line. At about ₩16,000 per person for gukbap plus generous pork jowl suyuk and assorted sundae, Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a hearty lunch spot by Seokchon Lake.

I'm a mom who loves going on food tours. Today I came for lunch at Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch (보승회관 방이점), one of the best lunch spots in Bangi-dong, with a gorgeous view of Seokchon Lake.

Where is Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch, and how is the parking?
Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is at 101 Ogeum-ro, Songpa-gu, Seoul (1st floor), and it's open 24 hours every day. Parking, groups, takeout and delivery are all possible.
There are parking spaces right in front of the restaurant, so it was convenient to park and walk in. The restaurant also sits right in front of Seokchon Lake, so you can have breakfast or lunch with a really lovely view, which I loved.

Lunchtime waits and seating at Boseung Hoegwan
We got there close to 1 p.m., and the place was completely full!! It was a rather cold day, and it was so busy there was even a wait, which says a lot about this Bangi-dong lunch spot.
Inside there are seats for solo diners, seats for two, and seats for four or more, so it seems great for office workers nearby to grab breakfast or lunch. The menu has all kinds of sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) plus bone hangover stew, suyuk gukbap (boiled pork rice soup), samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), cold noodles and many other Korean dishes.
Ordering the jowl suyuk set for two: mild broth and spicy broth
We ordered two jowl suyuk sets (hangjeong suyuk jeongsik, pork jowl boiled-meat set). You can choose sundaeguk or suyuk gukbap with it. My friend got the mild, milky broth and I got the spicy one.

Neat side dishes came out as soon as we ordered, and the tangy, spicy kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) was seriously right up my alley!! So good.

The suyuk gukbap set comes with a generous plate of suyuk and sundae alongside the gukbap, so you get a whole spread to enjoy. You can also order single portions, and I could get mine spicy.
A big earthenware pot arrived, packed with jowl suyuk and assorted sundae in milky broth, and it looked so appetizing, like eating at a fancy Korean restaurant!! They put it on the gas burner right away to bring it to a bubbling boil, this suyuk set!!

Seeing the tidy side dishes and the whole suyuk set looked so tempting. The clean, mild-looking set came to a bubbling boil quickly, and I started my feast in full mukbang mode.

Spicy vs mild sundaeguk at Boseung Hoegwan: how did they taste?
The set came with two kinds of sundaeguk, spicy and mild. Even the mild broth comes with dadaegi (seasoned chili paste) so you can spice it up, which I liked. The spicy sundaeguk was fiery enough to make your eyes and nose run, yet the mildness of the broth really stayed through it!!

First, the spicy sundaeguk! On a chilly day like today, the refreshing, clean, spicy trio fit together perfectly, and it was seriously delicious!! It's clean, spicy and refreshing, so anyone with a grown-up palate would love it, and I think it'd be great as a hangover cure too!! The sundae and the tender meat tasted slow-simmered, and it was right up my alley, just delicious.

Jowl suyuk with no gamey smell, dipped in seasoned soy sauce
Maybe because the suyuk here is pork jowl, it was tender and soft with no gamey smell at all. The jowl suyuk seemed to suit both adults and kids, and everyone was so busy eating. Its mild flavor is the charm, and dipping it in the seasoned soy sauce was just delicious!!

Jowl suyuk set price and final thoughts
The jowl suyuk set at Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is about ₩16,000 per person, a good-value price for a hearty meal, which makes this a charming Bangi-dong lunch spot. It's a solid, filling meal that works for breakfast or lunch.
It seems like a great place for a drink in the evening too, so next time I'll have to come back at dinner time~~
