Jongno 3-ga bakery: injeolmi & peanut bread in Cheongjin Park, Munhwa
In short
Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵) is a bakery on Seosunra-gil in Ikseon-dong, near Exit 7 of Jongno 3-ga Station in Seoul, that sells only bread baked the same day. The writer took out coffee bread (5,800 won) and injeolmi (roasted soybean rice cake), peanut and black sesame breads (3,800 won each) to eat in nearby Cheongjin Park, then warmed a salt bread from a Naver receipt review event in an air fryer the next day. Munhwa Bakery wins on taste, on its rule of passing leftover bread to neighbors and on fast single-wrapped packing, making it an easy Ikseon-dong bakery pick.

Walking past a bakery without going in is just not possible for a bread lover, right? I was wandering near Ikseon-dong in Jongno 3-ga when I spotted Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵). The exterior looked so intriguing that I walked in as if in a trance.

Where is Munhwa Bakery, and what are the hours?
Munhwa Bakery is at 65 Donhwamun-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul (1st floor), 199 m from Exit 7 of Jongno 3-ga Station (Lines 1, 3 and 5). It is open daily 11:00–20:00, and there is no parking.

A bakery in Ikseon-dong that won me over twice: once with its warm heart, once with its tidy system
Munhwa Bakery's exterior and how entry works
Munhwa Bakery is a small shop with a late-19th-century opening-of-Korea look. It had that Mr. Sunshine-era, late Joseon style feel.

A sign said only 2 groups can enter at a time, but luckily there was no line when I went.

Munhwa Bakery only sells bread baked the same day
It turns out Munhwa Bakery's principle is to sell only bread made that day, and all leftover bread is passed on to help people in need nearby. A place that does good like this... I came to buy bread and ran into an unexpectedly touching moment...

A single-wrapped system that keeps up when it gets crowded
Almost all the bread at Munhwa Bakery is hygienically wrapped individually in the shop ahead of time. Thanks to that, even with only one staff member, there was no long wait after ordering, and they packed everything up right away. I bet it doesn't get backed up even when customers pile in, and turnover must be fast!

The breads on display
Walnut bread, onion bagel, cheese bread, mugwort rice cake bread, garlic bread... every single one looked delicious.

Salt bread from the Naver receipt review event
When I paid, there happened to be a Naver review event! I joined right away and got a salt bread! While I was writing my receipt review, another customer came in and, with a very experienced air, picked garlic bread and mugwort rice cake bread. Ah, next time I'm going to try that garlic plus mugwort combo too.

Eating Munhwa Bakery bread in Cheonggjin Park
The weather wasn't hot, so I strolled from Ikseon-dong in Jongno 3-ga toward Gwanghwamun with my arms full of bread, and suddenly there was a gorgeous Cheonggjin Park!

I loved the lush green trees in the middle of the city, so I sat down for a moment and started the bread tasting right there, hahahahahaha

How does Munhwa Bakery's bread taste?
Coffee bread (₩5,800)
The first thing I tried was the coffee bread. The cream isn't overly sweet or greasy,

and the bread itself is so fluffy that it melts softly in your mouth and vanishes in an instant. A bread you could eat without teeth.

Injeolmi bread (₩3,800)
I was sure the injeolmi bread (named after roasted soybean powder rice cake) would have injeolmi cream, but it had a twist, hahaha

There was red bean inside. The bread was chewy like rice cake too, so it felt like eating a Korean dessert, and the cream part where you could even chew grains of rice felt fresh.

Peanut bread (₩3,800)
The peanut bread has the signature nutty richness of peanut cream,

and the soft bread surface is covered in a streusel crumble(?), adding a pleasant sweetness. Totally satisfied!

Black sesame bread (₩3,800)
I expected the black sesame bread to have red bean like the injeolmi bread, but nope, haha

A mild, nutty black sesame cream spread softly through my whole mouth, and I enjoyed it without ever getting tired of it!

Salt bread (review event), warmed in an air fryer the next day
The salt bread I got from the review event, I warmed briefly in the air fryer the next day.

Air-fried, it got that proper crispy-outside, moist-inside texture back. The rich butter aroma and the salty taste went together so well that I was impressed: "They even make salt bread this well here."

Munhwa Bakery's injeolmi bread: what to know first
It's less a drawback than a cute(?) heads-up. I assumed Munhwa Bakery's injeolmi bread would be full of roasted soybean powder flavor and took a bite, and I was so surprised to find red bean inside, hahahahahahaha Just so you know~
Why I recommend Munhwa Bakery in Ikseon-dong and Jongno 3-ga
If you're looking for a bakery in Ikseon-dong or Jongno 3-ga, I recommend Munhwa Bakery! The bread is good, and the warm meaning of same-day baking and donation made me like it even more. Bread aside, I also discovered Cheonggjin Park on my walk, which made my whole day happier~
