It had been about 3 months since my last straight perm, so this time I decided to get a root magic perm from Deputy Director Roa instead of a full one.

1. Shampoo and softening cream

First, a thorough shampoo at the shampoo station. The bed was so comfortable I didn't want to get up, haha.

While drying my hair, Deputy Director Roa carefully checked how curly it is, then applied the softening cream evenly.

2. Heat treatment under wrap

After the product was on, they wrapped my hair in cling film for the heat treatment. She checked on it carefully along the way. And I sipped coffee and relaxed with the window view, haha.

3. Flat-iron pressing for side volume

After rinsing and drying, the flat-iron pressing started. Deputy Director Roa and a staff member worked on both sides, carefully lifting the roots for volume. They're really fast, and I loved how the whole process just zipped along. I've been getting straight perms for 20 years now, and a perm that goes quickly always gives me a much better result, haha.

4. Neutralizing and cut

To lock in the nicely lifted side volume and the neat top, they applied neutralizer and let it sit. Finally, a careful cut and it's done!! Deputy Director Roa's cuts are the best, haha.

Did the side-volume root magic make my face look less long?

The root magic result at ONLY FOR YOU Hannam Main Branch made me super, super, super happy! First, my hair isn't damaged at all. See the angel ring (the shiny band of light)? (By the way, I only did the roots this time, so if the ends look a little split, that's just my natural hair, haha.)

It doesn't have that awkward, long, cucumber-like look you get when you just blindly lift the top for volume! The difference is very, very subtle, but my overall face shape looks like a pretty egg shape instead of a cucumber. That tiny difference really matters.

Could I go out the very next day after the perm?
