The Mignon Seoul is a brunch and Western restaurant on Gangnam-daero 102-gil, between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. On a weekday lunch, after booking ahead, two friends shared three dishes at The Mignon Seoul: seafood oil pasta, truffle mushroom gnocchi and popover pancakes, and the truffle mushroom gnocchi was the clear favourite. With a pretty interior on top of the food, The Mignon Seoul works well for a lunch catch-up with a friend or a date.

Sinnonhyeon café after brunch: Basque cheesecake, Upper and Under

Upper and Under is a dessert café on Gangnam-daero 102-gil, between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam Stations in Seoul, with seating from the basement up to the 2nd floor. After brunch near Gangnam Station, the writer and a friend ordered a warm latte, an Einspänner, Basque cheesecake and a canelé at Upper and Under for a slow dessert hour. Upper and Under works well as the second stop when a brunch outing turns into coffee and dessert.

Tonkatsu in Hongdae, Seoul: ₩8,000 soba set add-on at Katsu Monster

Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch is a Japanese tonkatsu restaurant in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. After finishing errands in Hongdae, the writer ordered the triple katsu — one piece each of loin, fillet and cheese cutlet — added the cold soba set for ₩8,000, and ate it alternating with a spicy curry. Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch is a good pick on a day when one dish is hard to choose, since several flavors arrive in a single lunch.

Hongdae nail salon dried rose pink magnetic gel nails: Byuazeu

Byuazeu Hongdae Nail, Lashes & Skincare is a nail, lash and skincare shop near Hongik University Station in Mapo, Seoul. Booked for a weekday lunchtime slot with no wait, the visit swapped only the color on Byuazeu's monthly art design to a dried rose pink, with pearl magnetic pink and silver cubic line art as accents. The full set, art included, took about 40 minutes and left plenty of time for the rest of the day.

Baby shower lunch course near Gongdeok Station, Seoul: Usu Lunch C

Usu is a Korean beef (hanwoo) course restaurant in Gongdeok, Mapo, Seoul, in the basement arcade right outside Gongdeok Station Exit 2. Over the Lunch C course with a friend due to give birth, Usu ran the safe-delivery celebration requested at booking: grape juice for the expecting friend, champagne for me, and a dessert plate reading "Congratulations on the most precious first meeting in the world." With every seat in a private room and free corkage, Usu is an easy place to talk quietly for hours.
