Flounder sashimi takeout from Nokdo Susan at Daecheon Port Fish Market

Today I'm introducing Nokdo Susan (녹도수산), a takeout sashimi spot in Daecheon Port Fish Market that we stopped by after playing in the sand with our kid at Daecheon Beach. The owner is kind, and the sashimi is fresh and delicious. My husband and I take our raw fish seriously, and we fell for this place so hard that this is our third visit this year!

Nokdo Susan at Daecheon Port Fish Market: a shop that's good to come back to

Nokdo Susan is at stalls 57 and 58, and as a repeat visitor I could find it with my eyes closed, haha. Even after a long gap, the kind owner welcomed us warmly and greeted our kids so sweetly~ Today again the tanks were full of fresh fish, and we wandered around wondering what to eat.

Where to park at Daecheon Port Fish Market

The market has a very large parking lot, so there's no parking worry on the way to Nokdo Susan. If you park in front of Mud Mart, it's a one-minute walk to the shop, so as soon as you see Mud Mart, I recommend parking right there!

This is our third trip to Nokdo Susan this year, so we now know the way well and take the shortest route there.

Nokdo Susan's tanks: fine even if you're sensitive to fishy smells?

The reason we keep coming back is the neatly kept tanks and the fresh seafood! I have a sensitive nose, a real bloodhound, and I notice a fishy smell right away if anything isn't fresh. At Nokdo Susan, no matter how much I sniffed around, there was no fishy smell at all!

You can feel how hygienically and cleanly they work to keep the fish fresh, and I think that's why we keep coming back.

Flounder chosen at Nokdo Susan

Why we picked flounder at Nokdo Susan

Out of all the seafood at Nokdo Susan, we chose flounder!! I'm a sashimi lover and often eat flounder near home, but flounder cut right at the fish market is fresher and tastier. The owner's knife skills are great too, so I figured it would taste different from inland flounder 👍

Nokdo Susan flounder sashimi: packing and taste

The flounder came neatly packed on an ice-lined ice box, so we could carry it back to our accommodation fresh. Eeek!! I was so excited about eating sashimi that I set out the glossy Nokdo Susan flounder the moment we got to the room!

Even now I'm amazed at how prettily and neatly they put it together in such a short time. I also loved that the sashimi was arranged on an ice-lined ice box, so we could eat it fresh and clean.

Neatly sliced Nokdo Susan flounder sashimi

We tried the fresh flounder plain and also dipped in chogochujang. It was so fresh and mild that even with no dipping the moist, springy texture was wonderful, and with chogochujang or soy sauce the savory flavor just exploded. Alternating between them was so good!!

Sea squirt given as a free extra by the Nokdo Susan owner

The free sea squirt that made me a sea squirt fan

This is the sea squirt (meongge) the owner gave us as a free extra! I don't normally enjoy sea squirt, but this one looked so fresh that I tried it. Oh my goodness, I get sea squirt now 😳 The sea aroma filling my mouth and the savory flavor that builds as you chew were so good.

Verdict: why I recommend Nokdo Susan for Daecheon Port sashimi takeout

If you're going to Daecheon Port Fish Market for sashimi takeout, I really recommend Nokdo Susan! The owner is so kind and always packs generous, fresh sashimi, making it a no-fail takeout spot near Daecheon Beach. For anyone hunting for good sashimi in Boryeong, stall 57, Nokdo Susan, is a must, a must, a must!!!
