Why choose Comma Hair & Makeup before a profile photo shoot?

Before my profile photo shoot, I got natural makeup at Comma Hair & Makeup in Hongdae. My criteria were a reasonable price and whether the makeup looks in the reviews were fairly varied.

With my late thirties coming up... I felt like I wanted to capture how I look right now? Maybe it's because it's autumn.. 🍂 No idea, honestly. So I decided to take profile photos and went looking for a hair and makeup salon, and finding a place that was reasonably priced and could bring out the look I wanted was sooo important!!

When picking a salon, I searched hard through the reviews to see whether the makeup looks were fairly varied.. I really didn't want a puffy, dewy pink makeup look.. After all that legwork I settled on Comma Hair & Makeup, and the result was a success..!

Where is Comma Hair & Makeup in Hongdae?

Comma Hair & Makeup is a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Hongik Univ. Station. Being so close to the station was sooo convenient.

Inside Comma Hair & Makeup: the private makeup rooms

The inside is small and tidy, and all makeup is done in private rooms. The makeup artist welcomed me kindly and calmed my slight nerves and excitement.

The restroom is inside the salon, to the right of the sofa.

I liked that all makeup is done privately in individual rooms. I went on a Friday around lunchtime; the slots before that were fully booked, and makeup was also going on in the room next door.

The room is bigger than I expected, with all sorts of makeup products on display. The lighting is bright enough to catch every one of my blemishes.

Natural makeup for ₩110,000: how does the session work?

Makeup time! I got Comma Hair & Makeup's natural makeup (₩110,000).

I'd gotten a bit sweaty on the way, as if the subway AC had been off, so they handed me a handheld fan to cool down and then did a skincare sheet mask.

Meanwhile they gave me puffiness-relief tea and snacks, haha. An Americano is available too!

Brow shaping that keeps your natural brows

They shaped my brows, and I loved how clean they looked. Some places take off half your brow and then you're stuck dealing with it (?), but at Comma they designed them to make the most of my own brows.

50 minutes of makeup, with hair by the same artist

Before I knew it the makeup was done and I was on to hair! I think it took about 50 minutes through makeup. So fast.

One person did both my makeup and hair.. golden hands.. I hadn't even searched for a hair style, but they styled it to bring out a tassel texture. Looking at it afterward, I think this is what I wanted..(?) They also told me carefully where to lightly touch up before the shoot, which came in handy.

Baked, no-pink blush for profile photos: the result

The natural makeup result was even more satisfying than I expected. I took a ton of photos even in the powder room...

I wanted a muted, slightly baked-looking blush rather than pink, and within the natural makeup they brought out that feel as much as possible.

They also packed a lip product and small tools so I could touch up 💕

I loved the blush so much that I asked which products they combined and took photos~ They said the product on the right creates the slightly baked look.

Is Comma Hair & Makeup worth it before a photo shoot?

I recommend Comma Hair & Makeup, a Hongdae hair and makeup salon, to anyone with an ID photo, passport photo or profile shoot coming up. Access, price and quality were all satisfying!

I was in such a good mood that I even took a selfie on my own, hahaha. It would also be nice to get done as a mood boost before heading out somewhere. Next time I'd like to try a heavier muted + baked idol-style makeup..ha
