Damyang café with bamboo leaf & Dubai croissants: Frank Coffin Bar

In short

Frank Coffin Bar Damyang is a bakery café on Metaprovence 1-gil in Damyang-eup, Damyang, an easy stop alongside Metasequoia Road and Meta Provence. The writer visited with their parents for a signature cream latte, an Americano and an espresso, plus a pain au chocolat, a vanilla plain Swiss, a Dubai croissant and a bamboo leaf croissant made with bamboo leaves; the Dubai croissant and the bamboo leaf croissant stood out most. Frank Coffin Bar Damyang is a good place to rest with bread and coffee on a Damyang day out.

The day I walked around Meta Provence in Damyang, the sun was warmer than I expected, so I went looking for a place to rest for a bit. There were plenty of nice-looking shops around, but I didn't want to just drink coffee. I wanted a special bakery that I could only find in Damyang, too.

Frank Coffin Bar Damyang (프랭크커핀바 담양점) is a bakery café at 13 Metaprovence 1-gil, Damyang-eup, Damyang-gun, Jeonnam. It's well placed for combining with a walk on Metasequoia Road, so it slotted naturally into our Damyang day trip. Today I'll share an honest take on the drinks and bakery items I ordered myself.

Frank Coffin Bar Damyang is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. You can drop in before a morning stroll or fit it into an evening plan, with plenty of flexibility.

It's a good stop while exploring Meta Provence, and it was also nice for resting with something sweet after walking Metasequoia Road. At tourist spots it's easy to gulp your coffee in a rush, but here we shared the bread and stayed a while. It slowed the tempo of our trip down a little.

How are the signature cream latte and espresso?

I ordered Frank's signature cream latte, Mom had a hot Americano, and Dad had an espresso.

As the name says, the signature cream latte's charm is its soft cream. It starts sweet and cozy, then the bitterness of the coffee follows, so it goes well with dessert. They drew a cute latte art on it, too.

The hot Americano cleansed the palate between different kinds of bread, and the espresso seemed right for anyone who wants a strong aroma, short and vivid. The espresso also had sweet sugar laid under the dark coffee, which made for a different kind of taste.

Pain au chocolat and vanilla plain Swiss from the bakery case

The bakery showcase at Frank Coffin Bar Damyang has so many kinds that I couldn't make up my mind. I started with the pain au chocolat and the vanilla plain Swiss.

The pain au chocolat had chocolate flavor between layers of crisp, flaky pastry, and it went well with coffee. It wasn't overly sweet; you could taste the richness of the butter together with deep chocolate.

The vanilla plain Swiss had a soft, sweet aroma that stood out. It's more of an easygoing dessert than a flashy, intense one, so it paired nicely with the cream latte too.

Dubai croissant and bamboo leaf croissant: the two worth savoring

Out of everything at Frank Coffin Bar Damyang, the ones that really hit my taste were the Dubai croissant and the bamboo leaf croissant (댓잎크로와상, daenip croissant).

The Dubai croissant

The moment I took a bite of the Dubai croissant, "this is seriously amazing" just came out of my mouth. The crispy outside and the rich kadayif (shredded pastry) filling made the texture really full. The sweet and nutty flavors came through clearly. I tried a lot of things, but this was one of the ones that stayed with me longest!!

Bamboo leaf croissant: made with bamboo leaves, not green tea

When I first saw the bamboo leaf croissant, I thought it had green tea cream inside. But it turns out it isn't green tea at all; it's made with bamboo leaves.

I found it interesting that they put the local character of Damyang, famous for bamboo, into a dessert. It tastes familiar yet different, so it felt like a special item you can only have in Damyang.

The bread is baked in-house, so it's fresher, and even in humid summer weather the croissants kept their signature crispiness, which my parents were happy about!

Frank Coffin Bar Damyang was less a place for just drinking something and more a space to enjoy the leisure of travel with a wide variety of bread.

We came in a little tired, and the rich, nutty Dubai croissant and the bamboo leaf croissant with its local character really gave us a proper sugar recharge. If you're planning to be near Meta Provence or Metasequoia Road, drop by as a rest stop along the way.
