In short
Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and bunsik (Korean snack food) restaurant right outside Exit 6 of Sinyongsan Station in Yongsan, Seoul. Today's post is an honest review of a place any tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) fanatic has probably heard of — the tteokbokki mecca known as 'Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch.' If you've been hunting for a great Yongsan tteokbokki spot, a Yongridan-gil favorite, or just a genuinely good Yongsan restaurant, pay attention. Even visiting again after a long time, it still lived up to its reputation!

How do you order at Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch?
At Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch, you order at the kiosk right when you walk in. Once you find a seat, your food gets brought right over. The turnover was really fast.
Location and atmosphere at Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch
Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is right there as soon as you come out of Exit 6 of Sinyongsan Station, Line 4. Being near Yongsan Station, it always has that bustling, lively energy no matter when you go. It's great for a quick bite of bunsik (Korean snacks) in the middle of a Yongridan-gil date, or for gathering with friends over tasty tteokbokki and a drink.

The inside has that cozy-yet-clean vibe typical of a bunsik joint, so I could eat comfortably. Even when there's a wait, the fast turnover means you don't have to worry much about it. And the music playing inside had this retro feel — old songs playing, which I really liked.

What comes in the Hyeonseoni Combo Set?
What I ordered that day was Hyeonseonine's signature, best-selling menu — the 'Hyeonseoni Combo Set.' It's a spread that lets you taste a bit of everything: tteokbokki, fritters, sundae (blood sausage), gimbap, and eomuk (fish cake). It's a must-order if you're visiting with a group or just want to try a little of everything.

Self-serve bar, restroom, kids' chair
At Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch, you can grab whatever you need from the self-serve bar. The restroom is indoors too, so that was convenient. There's also a kids' chair, so it looks convenient for family visits as well.

How spicy is Hyeonseonine's medium-heat tteokbokki?
Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki lets you choose the spice level, and this time I went with 'medium.' It's not that I can't handle spicy food at all, but I didn't want to be sniffling through the whole meal — and to cut to the chase, it was the right call!
The balance between heat and sweetness was honestly perfect. It started off pleasantly spicy, then a subtle savory depth kept building the more I ate, and I couldn't put my spoon down. It wasn't just aggressively spicy — the seasoning had soaked all the way into the rice cakes, so it was genuinely delicious. If you want it spicier, I'd recommend going up a level!

Fritters, sundae, and gimbap dipped in tteokbokki sauce
The real magic of the Hyeonseoni Combo Set happens when you dip the side dishes into the special tteokbokki sauce.
Crispy vegetable fritters and sweet potato fritters
Dipping the freshly fried, crispy fritters into the thick, sweet-and-spicy tteokbokki sauce was an absolutely amazing combo. The fritters were genuinely delicious too. The vegetable fritter and sweet potato fritter combo — pure bliss!

Chewy chapssal sundae and mini gimbap
The chewy chapssal sundae (glutinous blood sausage) with no off-putting smell, and the mild mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll), both tasted even better once dipped in the tteokbokki sauce. The sauce was so good that no combination could go wrong. The gimbap was tasty too, so my hand kept reaching for it. Honestly, gimbap plus tteokbokki is a classic combo, and this set has it all put together!

Overall: Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch still lives up to its name
Visiting Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch again after a long while, it was still a standout Yongsan restaurant that didn't disappoint. The addictive seasoning of the tteokbokki and the generous combo set is a delight every single time.
If you're craving reliably delicious bunsik near Yongsan Station, or want both value and flavor on a Yongridan-gil date, I strongly recommend Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch!
